ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates in the governance of the nursing program through the Faculty Organization and its appropriate working units.
In collaboration with other faculty contributes to the defined curriculum plan by planning organizing implementing and evaluating instruction.
Utilizes diverse pedagogy appropriate for student population with an emphasis on adult learning strategies and active learning formats.
Creates a positive milieu in the classroom clinical and campus laboratory and the nursing program that fosters student learning and development.
Evaluates student learning outcomes in various units of instruction.
Evaluates student performance in accordance with established standards defined by the course faculty and the nursing department.
Advises students on academic and programmatic matters for assigned advisees.
Establishes positive faculty-student relationships with effective communications in formal and informal contacts.
Assumes teaching assignment workload per nursing program policy.
Attends research related conferences workshops and lectures. Critiques research studies in relation to methodology analysis interpretation and relevance. Utilizes current research applicable to area of teaching. Develops areas of interest in research activities. Develops plan for professional growth. Participates as a member of the faculty organization and a college committee. Participates in activities promoting the nursing program. Maintains membership in professional organizations and/or community groups. Provides service to the community external to the nursing department. Serves as a professional role model for students and staff. Supports a learning community within the nursing program.
Implements the program philosophy conceptual framework and content/process instructional plan to insure integrity of the curriculum. Demonstrates/models the Network and School core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all internal and external customers. Complies with Network and School policies regarding safety attendance and dress code.
Maintenance of clinical competence as registered nurse
Accepts changes in teaching assignment based on needs of the nursing department
OTHER FUNCTIONS
1. Participates in orientation of new faculty and students.
2. Assists in student recruitment and visitation programs.
3. Assumes team leadership as assigned or needed.
4. Serves on structural units of the Network or School as requested.
5. Participates in the faculty development program of the School.
6. Prepares course grades documents registration material and records.
7. Participates in peer review of faculty performance as requested.
8. Assumes other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Classroom days may require standing up to four hours per day and potentially two consecutive hours. Clinical instruction may require walking up to six hours per day and potentially two hours consecutively and may require standing for one hour. Continuously expected to use fingers and hands handle items and carry up to ten pounds. Frequently expected to climb stairs or ladder reach above shoulder level lift push or carry up to ten pounds. Occasionally required to firmly grasp objects be able to maintain squat or crouch position or lift or push up to 100 pounds; rarely to twist and turn fingers and hands; or carry greater than 10 pounds. Sensory requirements include touching and perceiving attributes of objects; hearing as it relates to normal conversation high and low frequencies; general vision near and far color peripheral vision and depth perception and adequate olfactory function.
POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:
Cuts and punctures: caution should be taken when assigned to risk areas. Assault and battery: security department is available for assistance. Radiation exposure and chemical and biological hazards: gloves and protective aprons available.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Effective verbal and written communication with other faculty administration hospital personnel visitors and external professional agencies. Maintenance of positive relationship with students and professional staff essential.
