Job Description

Races is a dual-language K-5 public charter school open to any student residing in New Mexico.

We are preparing for the 2026 school year which will start classes on July 21st 2025. Additionally Professional Development teacher sessions will take place on July 7th and 8th and from July 14 th through the 18th 2025.

The Races curriculum is uniquely designed to address the needs of students in borderland communities. Through a Mesoamerican enrichment curriculum known as Xinachtli students learn to explore investigate and participate in constructing knowledge. They also develop at an early age important numeracy and science concepts language skills cultural oral traditions and community-building skills. Parents participate as partners in creating a learning community where students and parents are valued as participants in constructing knowledge and the learning environment. Races implements a 90:10 two-way dual language immersion approach beginning in kindergarten. This model offers a gradual learning process in English and Spanish leading to a high level of proficiency in other subjects such as Math Science and Social Studies. Students will become fully bilingual and biliterate by the end of fourth grade. Each student forms a positive identity by discovering and critically thinking about who they are their parents neighborhood community ethnic group and unique personality.

Certified Bilingual Teacher Job Description

General Functions: A teacher at Races is responsible for working effectively with students families and staff working with teams collaboratively to implement a place-based dual language educational model of instruction being open to implementing an innovative curriculum which is child centered based on a constructivist knowledge method. The teacher is responsible for designing lesson plans student assessment activities curriculum development hands-on experiential education methodologies dual-language instructional techniques literacy strategies and special education modifications. Each teacher must have the ability to create a flexible program and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth and motivate each student to: develop skills knowledge and attitudes following his/her ability; develop his/her special talents; develop sound opinions based on facts; and to develop proficiency in inquiry skills and concepts related to the schools curriculum plan and student performance standards for success. Must be committed to accomplishing the Races mission and vision for biliteracy high academic student outcomes and positive identity formation; and open to learn and implementing a culturally relevant curriculum based on the Mesoamerican Knowledge.

Qualifications:

New Mexico Elementary Teaching Licensure (Level II preferred)

Bachelors and/or masters degree in education from a regionally accredited college or university

NMPED endorsed Classroom experience Bilingual and Biculturalhas an understanding and appreciation of traditional practices and the ability to provide instruction in Spanish and English

Fully Biliterate in English and Spanish

Thoughtful about interacting with people from diverse backgrounds

Excited about learning

Patient and resourceful

Organized and careful about time management

Service-oriented Able to express ideas precisely in writing and in oral presentations in English and Spanish endorsement (required)

Understands and has experience with dual-language instructional methods

Understands and has experience with hands-on experiential educational methods

Is a team player

Leadership Characteristics:

Possesses collaborative skills and a willingness to work with colleagues in a Professional Learning environment

Has a desire to learn and grow and is open to feedback from instructional leaders colleagues and the community

Has a willingness to be involved in community activities and events outside of typical school hours

Possesses technological knowledge/proficiency

Experience in working with early elementary studentsin a self-contained classroom setting

Understands the social emotional and intellectual developmental needs of early elementary school students and appropriate responses within the context of the US/Mexico border and family dynamics

Teacher Duties and Responsibilities:

Interact effectively with students staff parents and the overallschool community

Develop lesson plans that draw from the stories history geography environment science arts language and culture of the local community

Ensure the attainment of learning standards in the English Language Arts Bilingual Education Standards and Math Common Core Standards

Provide direct instruction as well as experiential hands-on activities in both Spanish and English

Provide a safe and effective learning environment forstudents staff and the overallschool community

Administer quarterly assessments and organize student portfolios to capture individual student progress

Collaborate with parents and communicate students progress and classroom expectations

Contribute to the overallschool community by supporting school and community programs activities and events related to the schools vision mission and goals.

Attends ongoing guidance activities and/or workshops regarding Xinachtli ways of Knowledge to conceptualize Races vision and mission further.
