The Department of Accounting and Commercial Law in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Marys University invites applications for a limited term appointment at the Assistant Professor or Lecturer rank commencing August 4 2025 (8-month teaching contract with a 4-week paid preparatory period).

The Department of Accounting and Commercial Law has a full-time complement of 14 faculty members supported by several part-time working professionals. The department provides programming for 250 undergraduate accounting majors and for several courses in support of other undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department also offers a PhD degree in Accounting. Our Accounting program is fully accredited by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.

The Sobey School of Business is housed in an up-to-date facility compatible with the latest advances in information technology. With over 80 full time faculty members and an enrolment of approximately 2500 students pursuing undergraduate master and doctoral degrees it is the largest and most comprehensive business program in the Maritime addition to being nationally known for its excellence in teaching the Sobey School has established an outstanding record of scholarship and a reputation for international and community outreach. The Sobey School is accredited by AACSB CPHR and EQUIS and is a PRME Champion.

The aptitude and ability to teach classes in Financial and/or Managerial Accounting at the undergraduate and MBA level is required. Experience teaching International Accounting would be an asset. University- level teaching experience will be an important consideration for the appointment. The successful candidate will normally teach a total of five class sections over the Fall and Winter semesters of the academic year if hired at the Assistant Professor rank or six class sections if hired at the Lecturer rank. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in student advising and support as well as other service activities.

Job Information and Responsibilities

Most undergraduate accounting classes are taught in-person and on campus and use a common syllabus. The successful candidate may be expected to help develop that common syllabus teach and co-ordinate our Introductory Managerial Accounting course during the Fall and Winter semesters. Other potential teaching assignments at the undergraduate or graduate level beyond the primary needs of the introductory course will be determined by the Department co-chairs based on the candidates background interests and program needs.

Experience and Education Requirements

For an appointment at the Assistant Professor rank an earned doctorate is normally expected. For an appointment at the Lecturer rank a masters degree in an applicable field a professional accounting designation and significant recent professional accounting experience is required.
