Department Summary:

Fresno Pacific Universitys (FPU) Teacher Preparation programs have a strong reputation within the Central Valleys educational community. Graduates are recognized for their excellent preparation to teach and serve in the regions diverse schools and beyond. Teacher Preparation programs are housed within the School of Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS). Offerings include the Multiple Subject Single Subject and Education Specialist Credentials all accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) as well as the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). Programs are available at the universitys main campus in southeast Fresno and at a regional campus in Visalia.

The Teacher Preparation Department is dedicated to providing students with a strong foundation in educational theory and pedagogical practice grounded in a Christian worldview. This perspective gives the program its sense of purpose and direction fostering excellence in teaching and a deep commitment to addressing the needs of students families and communities.


Essential Functions

Responsibilities

Serve as teaching faculty (clinical or tenure-track depending on education and experience) and lead instructor of Literacy Theory & Practice courses in the Teacher Preparation department with a focus on the foundational knowledge of language instruction and language acquisition to assist future teachers in meeting the needs of both English speakers and English learners.TPE Standard 7: Effective Literacy Instruction for All will be incorporated in all literacy coursework in the 25-26 academic year and this faculty member will lead the necessary faculty & mentor training for ongoing implementation.

  • Terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in education or related field
  • Familiarity with SB488 and TPE Standard 7: Effective Literacy Instruction for All.
  • Earned terminal degree in an appropriate field of study (MA will be considered for a clinical position; earned terminal degree required for tenure-track position)
  • Evidence of successful experience teaching college or post-BA students.
  • Record or promise of scholarly achievement.
  • Capacity to serve as department chair.

Environmental Conditions:
  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise dust fumes vibrations and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel personal hygiene and grooming.

Physical Demands:
  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc. operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

$68640 to $99150 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications experience and internal equity. In addition to compensation FPU offers a competitive benefits package.
