Job Description

Job Title: Attendance Helper

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Department: Intake/Attendance/Student Engagement Dept.

Reports To: Intake/Attendance/Student Engagement Director & Campus Principal

Approved By: Superintendent

SUMMARY:

Work closely with the campus attendance clerk attendance department truancy officers and parents to encourage daily attendance by students. Work day will consist of a four-hour day and no more than 19 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reception and Phones

  1. Contact parent/guardian in reference to students absence on a daily
  2. Refer student to Truancy Officer and immediate supervisor after students third consecutive
  3. Report attendance problems to parents via telephone
  4. Work with truancy officer to schedule home visit after childs 3rd consecutive absence and follow up on the status of this childs attendance concerns.
  5. Receive incoming calls and take reliable messages in reference to students attendance.

Reports Records and Correspondence

  1. Maintain and submit a log of all telephone calls to and from parents regarding student
  2. Record feedback from parents and provide said information to
  3. Ensure students phone records are correctly entered into TEAMS by verifying with nurse records or requesting updated information from parents.

  3. Participate in meetings and special events as
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor after the phone calls logs etc.. are done for students who are absent on a daily basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES/ EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience working with school personnel and parents preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos in both English and Spanish. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to administrators teachers students parents and the general community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized solutions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with parents students staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit talk stand walk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand and finger motions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus such as to read computerized or hand written material.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is regularly performed indoors. The employee continuously interacts with the public staff and students.
