POSITION OVERVIEW: Student Reporting Labs (SRL) is looking for a dynamic detail-oriented Alumni Community Intern to support and grow our national alumni network. This role is ideal for a current college student or recent graduate who is passionate about youth media journalism and community-building. Youll help us strengthen relationships with current and former SRL students develop engagement strategies and spotlight the stories of those continuing their storytelling journeys after high school. - Have experience in journalism education and/or community building
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Help coordinate virtual and in-person alumni events (i.e. career events social meetups) Support monthly alumni planning committee meetings Help kick off and support our online alumni community (ex. Discord) Help further explore new ideas like local meetups or college/career resource guides Brainstorm creative ways to collect alumni testimonials and feedback Other administrative and community support as assigned
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: - Preferred Major:Communications Arts Journalism & Media Community Building
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Community Engagement Storytelling: Learn how to build and sustain a vibrant alumni network through thoughtful outreach event planning and storytelling that highlights diverse voices and experiences Career Development Mentorship: Gain insight into the professional pathways within journalism media and public broadcasting while helping to create opportunities for alumni to connect with each other and industry professionals. Organizational Strategic Thinking: Develop skills in project management communications and digital tools while working in a fast-paced media education environment. Learn how to implement and iterate on community-building strategies that have real-world impact.
DESIRED COMPETENCIES: - Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft newsletter features blog posts and

- Excellent organizational and time management abilities; able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with attention

- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a remote/hybrid team setting
- Tech savvy and open to using platforms like Google Drive Zoom Slack Discord Airtable and Canva
- Interest in storytelling mentorship and media/journalism career development
- Curiosity initiative and enthusiasm for SRLs mission and the power of alumni networks
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience with Discord or other online communities a plus
- Experience with social media platforms a plus
- Demonstrated experience in community building a plus
