Job Title: Tax Manager
Location: Pleasant Hill CA
Job Type: Full-Time
We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Manager to lead our tax planning and accounting efforts in California. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of federal and California state tax laws experience in corporate and multi-state taxation and the ability to manage complex tax projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic finance team in a growing company ensuring compliance and maximizing tax efficiency.
Manage the preparation and review of federal state and local tax returns (corporate franchise sales & use property tax etc.).
Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws regulations and filing requirements in California and other relevant jurisdictions.
Lead tax planning initiatives to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring full compliance.
Oversee audits and correspondence with tax authorities particularly the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) CDTFA and IRS.
Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors.
Monitor changes in tax legislation (federal and state) and assess their impact on the company.
Maintain and improve internal tax accounting processes systems and documentation.
Support month-end and year-end close processes including tax provisions (ASC 740) and deferred tax calculations.
Train and mentor junior members of the tax team.
Assist in M&A tax due diligence and integration when applicable.
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field
Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience (public accounting and/or significant tax experience).
In-depth knowledge of California tax laws multi-state taxation and federal tax codes.
Strong experience with ASC 740 tax accounting.
Excellent analytical organizational and communication skills.
Proficient in tax software (e.g. Quickbooks UltraTax and Microsoft Excel)
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Experience with California R&D credit calculations and apportionment rules.
Familiarity with tax implications related to stock compensation or partnerships.
Experience in a fast-growing or publicly traded company.
