Technical Skills:
1. Requirements Gathering and Analysis:
Ability to elicit document and analyze business requirements through interviews workshops surveys and observations.
Proficiency in creating clear and concise requirement specifications including functional and non-functional requirements.
2. Business Process Modelling:
Familiarity with business process modeling techniques (e.g. BPMN flowcharts use case diagrams) to visualize and analyze workflows.
Skills in identifying areas for process improvement and optimization.
3. Data Analysis:
Proficiency in data analysis techniques including the ability to work with databases (SQL) and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau Power BI) to interpret and present data.
4. Documentation Skills:
Strong writing skills to create various documentation types including requirement specifications user stories business cases and process documentation.
5. Tools and Software:
Familiarity with tools such as JIRA Confluence Microsoft Visio and other project management tools for tracking requirements and managing projects.
6. Technical Understanding:
Basic understanding of software development principles methodologies (Agile Waterfall) and system architecture to communicate effectively with technical teams.
7. Testing and Quality Assurance:
Experience in creating test plans and test cases as well as actively participating in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to validate that the solution meets business needs.
Soft Skills:
1. Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively articulate business needs present findings and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
2. Stakeholder Management:
Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at various levels within the organization understanding their needs concerns and priorities.
3. Critical Thinking:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess information critically identify issues and recommend actionable solutions.
4. Adaptability and Flexibility:
Ability to adapt to changing requirements and work in a dynamic environment while remaining focused on project goals.
5. Collaboration and Teamwork:
Skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams fostering a collaborative environment to achieve project objectives.
6. Negotiation and Conflict Resolution:
Ability to negotiate priorities manage conflicting interests and facilitate consensus among stakeholders.
Experience Required
1. Work Experience:
Typically requires 2-5 years of experience in business analysis or a related field.
Prior experience in a specific industry (e.g. finance healthcare retail) can be beneficial.
