About the opportunity
The Technical Officer Production Horticulture is based at the TIA Vegetable Research Facility (TVRF) near Devonport in Tasmanias northwest and will support TIAs Horticulture Research Centre team and the Zero Net Emissions (ZNE) Horticulture Demonstration project in collaboration with the Zero Net Emissions for Agriculture Co-operative Research Centre (ZNE for Ag CRC).
The position will coordinate field and laboratory-based management of vegetable and associated crop trials including site establishment mechanical and biological weed/pest control nutrition regular crop and environmental assessments and reporting.
What youll do:
- Work with the research team to establish and implement trials.
- Provide high level technical expertise in field and laboratory-based production horticulture.
- Co-ordinate seasonal harvesting resources including pickers equipment and materials.
- Undertake collection and processing of crop and environmental samples for analysis.
- Work as part of the TVRF team to ensure the successful delivery of research and seed certification activities.
What were looking for:
- Relevant field and laboratory research trial or technical expertise related to agriculture.
- Strong working knowledge of production horticulture in Tasmania.
- Experience in biological principles associated with plant production.
- Demonstrated skillset to define trial protocols and undertake accurate trial evaluation.
- Proven accurate recording skills using multiple datasets including excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lead the technical management contributions for research projects.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $105665 comprising base salary within the range of $80869 to $90312 plus 17% superannuation.
