The Anchorage Trial Court is accepting applications for aChambers Judicial Assistant 1 (salary range 12). The successful applicant will provide assistance and support to the Magistrate Judges including case management processing and in-court duties.


Applicants transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement.


The Position
This position will provide administrative support to a team of magistrate judges. As a Chambers Judicial Assistant you will receive and process files accordingly. This will include processing and distributing orders and judgments to parties and agencies and routing files to appropriate locations. You will be responsible for the weekly review of matters under advisement for the magistrate judges performing calendaring duties and performing in-courting responsibilities regularly. Additionally you will answer telephones and respond to e-mails and written correspondence for the magistrate judge team.


The Work Environment
There are seven Magistrate Judges and three Chambers Judicial Assistants that work together closely. You will be located in the Nesbett Courthouse located on 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. You will receive a private parking pass for the courthouse parking garage.


The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

This position is assigned to the courts classified service; incumbents will attain regular status after completion of the initial probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.

AND

Two years of progressively responsible fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.



Substitution:

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

A bachelors degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

NOTE: Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred. Positions in this job classification are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will to the appointing authority.

WORK HISTORY

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required at time of interview.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately we cannot always interview all applicants.
