Are you interested in joining iTECS as a Senior Technical Architect
A Technical Architect is responsible for the assurance and design of digital solutions. As a Technical Architect you will undertake structured analysis of technical issues translating this analysis into technical designs that describe a solution.
Information & Technology Services (iTECS) is a Division within Scottish Governmentand part of Digital Directorate. It is headed by the Chief Operating Officer and hasresponsibility for:
- Delivering corporate ICT and information services for Scottish Government.
- Delivering shared ICT services (SCOTS Connect) to paying customers across thecentral government community in Scotland shared services customers now make upover 50% of the 22000 user base.
- Protecting Scottish Governments information and ICT assets.
- Contributing to the delivery of Digital Public Services by ensuring that our people andbusinesses are making the most of the digital opportunity; and that ICT public servicesare customer-centric collaborative integrated efficient and continuously improving bymaking best use of digital technology.
- The M365 Operations Branch is part of the Information & Technology Services (iTECS) branch is responsible for managing and maintaining the ScotsConnect M365environment including the Microsoft Power Platform environment. This includesoverseeing user access and permissions ensuring data security and compliance andmanaging subscriptions capacity and licenses. The team also monitors systemperformance handles troubleshooting and implements updates to maintain a secureand efficient environment. Youll also support the management and continual development of the Power Platformenvironment within the SG by providing guidance and best practices to users.
Responsibilities
- Presenting recommendations for technologies or improvements to enhance systems to support project goals clearly to colleagues based on knowledge of IT and analysis of systems needs.
- Understanding and adhering to governance and assurance processes.
- Evaluating the success of a project once the solution has been integrated identifying best practices and lessons learned.
- Recommending technologies or improvements to enhance systems to support project goals based on the analysis of systems needs and requirements of the business.
- Contributing to the overall technical strategy and road map for the department in your area of expertise.
- Contributing to the technical roadmap for services across a defined domain.
- Analysing existing systems to ensure they offer adequate security and meet the needs of the organisation.
- Act as a Subject Matter expert understanding the bigger picture including wider departmental organisational or cross government strategies to ensure your recommendations and designs are aligned.

Technical Skills:
This role is aligned to the Architecture within the General Technical Architecture.

These skills are assessed by technical assessment designed to represent the role. Candidates reaching this stage will receive a Technical Assessment Candidate Pack which outlines the specific skills to be assessed plus the method of assessment.
Experience:
Youll have demonstrable experience of Technical Architecture with the following skills and/or some experience in:
Delivering services exhibiting strong technical ability and background.
Review and analysis of the technical requirements to implement design and manage associated technologies.
An ability to understand the complex landscapes of technologies and the required collaboration with 3rd party suppliers internal and cross-government teams across multiple projects to deliver successful outcomes in line with business and technical requirements.
Communicating clearly in a language which meets the needs of different users with a good understanding of different channels and formats for different audiences and can adapt to stakeholders reactions with flexibility.

Behaviours are assessed at interview. Full details will be shared in advance with all candidates invited to this stage.

Interviews and DDaT Technical assessments are scheduled for w/c 4th August however these may be subject to change.

Working pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week we offer a truly flexible working including full-time part-time flexitime and compressed hours depending on the needs of the role.
DDaT Pay Supplement
This post is part of the Scottish Government Digital Data and Technology (DDAT) profession as a member of the profession you will join the professional development system. This post currently attracts a 5000.00 annual DDAT pay supplement applicable after a 3-month competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are reviewed regularly and there is one currently underway. Changes will be communicated when the review is concluded.
