In 2022 guided by the medical strategic direction to improve the quality of care by maintaining a competent medical laboratory staff a learning needs assessment (LNA)was conducted in MSF OCP laboratories. The LNA revealed the need to strengthen the capacity of laboratory staff especially in quality management. Following this assessment classroom training is being developed. However on-site follow-up and support is needed as well as the development of tools (protocols/checklists etc) to facilitate and standardize processes. The MIO in collaboration with laboratory referents and mission teams will support the development and ongoing implementation of quality culture among MSF laboratory staff.
Purpose
Contribute to Improved quality of care in MSF and MSF Supported health facilities by ensuring reliability of laboratory diagnostic services through establishing a strong quality assurance system providing relevant tools and continuous skillset building.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
With the support of the laboratory referents and working with project management team implement the diagnostic package of care for the level of health activities in the project.
From the experience of implementing the diagnostic package of care contribute to the update of the next versions of the MSF Diagnostic package of care.
With the support of laboratory referents and working with the laboratory and project teams put in place standard operating procedures for all laboratory activities carried out in the project. Check that laboratory staff understand the procedures and have the skills to carry out the procedures. Participate in the improved and adaptation of standard MSF laboratory procedures based on the experience of following up implementation of the same in the field.
Understanding the MSF Quality manual and universal good practices in quality management identify gaps in specific laboratories visited and with the support of lab referents create and implement corrective measures including training and mentoring.
Support implementation of new laboratory activities in MSF projects.
Strengthen collaboration with the MoH on laboratory matters when applicable and ensure efficient diagnostic services quality and reliable results.
Support continuous improvement in MSF laboratories by collating and analysing feedback and discussing this in relevant forums including project review meetings intersectional LWG meetings e.t.c.
Profile
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 3 years significant professional experience in medical laboratory sciences is essential.
A minimum of 3 years field experience with a medical organization is essential.
Experience in positions of responsibility/coordination and project management is an asset.
Experience in strategy implementation research projects and training programs are an asset.
LANGUAGES: French C1 and English B2 mini required
SKILLS:
Degree in Medical laboratory Sciences Biology chemistry biochemistry clinical analysis or another related field
Mastery of technical skills in the field
Ability to work with other specialists and as part of a team. Organizational and communication skills initiative Anticipation and planning skills.
Scientific analysis and reporting skills
Availability for field visits 70% of the time.
Specificities of the position:
Status: Field-based position (70%) with occasional travel to MSF Missions coordination and/or MSF HQ. Full-time 12 months fixed term contract.
Salary conditions: Salary according to the MSF field grid Level 12.
