Your Impact
As a senior engineer on Axons Connected Devices Cloud team you will drive the architecture and evolution of cloud services that power the next generation of connected devices for first responders. You live and breathe highly-available low-latency systems and excel at turning complex data-intensive challenges into elegant reliable solutions. Your technical leadership will influence multiple teams and your passion for our mission will shape products that truly matter in the field. You love working with the latest open source technologies and can leverage your system design skills to make the right technical decisions on a system that needs to be bullet-proof.
Not only can you drive decisions among competing engineering trade-offs your empathy with customers allows you to intuit innovative solutions for our customer problems. You will be working closely with product managers and designers to ensure we are building the right solution for our customers. You also enjoy mentoring other engineers and love to be a hands-on teacher helping to up level the engineers around you.

What Youll Do
Location: Work from home as much as you want live nearby any of our awesome US R&D Hubs (Seattle Scottsdale Atlanta or Boston) so you can easily collab in-person when its helpful and be an active part of our vibrant Axon culture.
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Direct reports: 0
- Lead system design & architecture for large-scale Kubernetes-based services owning decisions on deployment patterns auto-scaling resource orchestration and operational automation.
- Set the technical bar: write well-tested maintainable code; conduct rigorous code and design reviews; and champion engineering best practices across Axon.
- Guide cross-team initiatives: facilitating design/spec reviews mentoring engineers and driving pillar-wide improvements in reliability performance and operational efficiency.
- Own availability & performance: shape service capacity planning resource tuning (CPU/memory) SLO/SLA definition and resilience patterns for mission-critical workloads.
- Advance our DevOps stack: evolve secure repeatable CI/CD pipelines with ArgoCD Terraform and Kubernetes; and integrate robust observability.
- Collaborate deeply with Product Design and partner engineering groups to craft integrated solutions that delight customers in public safety and beyond.
- Act as a culture carrier: model growth mindset inclusive collaboration and relentless pursuit of Axons mission to Protect Life while leveraging modern AI tools such as Cursor GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT to accelerate development workflows enhance productivity and support decisionmaking documentation and problemsolving.
What You Bring
Required Skills
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field.
- 8 years designing building and operating distributed highly-available cloud systems.
- Proven mastery of backend service development in managed languages such as Go Java Scala or C#.
- Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes Docker and at least one IaC tool (Terraform preferred).
- Deep knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL datastores and data-intensive system patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams and mentor senior engineers.
Preferred Qualification
- Production experience with ArgoCD and k8s autoscaling strategies.
- Track record of driving CI/CD excellence and secure software supply-chain practices.
- Familiarity with connected-device ecosystems or edge-to-cloud data pipelines.
- Strong communication skills and the discernment to balance innovation with pragmatic delivery.

The Pay:
The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company meaning compensation is made up of base pay bonus and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 148500 in the lowest geographic market and USD 237600 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors such as: level function training transferable skills work experience business needs geographic market and often a combination of all these factors.
