Job Description

2-3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
The Information and Advice Adviser supports children and young people aged 0 25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families by delivering impartial person-centred information advice and guidance.
The role involves managing a complex and varied caseload and supporting clients through key processes including EHCP applications school placements tribunals and appeals.
A central part of the position also includes managing and continuously improving the Local Offer website and promoting engagement through outreach training and partnership work with families and professionals.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Provide impartial advice and support in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 SEND Code of Practice 2015 and Equality Act 2010.
Be the first point of contact for enquiries ensuring sensitive appropriate responses across multiple communication channels (phone email written and in person).
Manage a complex caseload addressing a range of SEND-related issues including education placements exclusions post-16 transitions tribunals and dispute resolution.
Support parents and young people in understanding and navigating the EHCP process including preparation for mediation or SEND Tribunal hearings.
Attend and contribute to external meetings such as Annual Reviews co-production sessions and TACs offering specialist SEN knowledge.
Lead the maintenance content management and statutory compliance of the Local Offer website.
Promote and deliver outreach activities and public engagement events to raise awareness of the service.
Build constructive relationships and facilitate partnership working with parents schools settings health and social care services and voluntary organisations.
Deliver training to families and professionals on SEND-related topics and use of the Local Offer.
Ensure service delivery reflects diverse needs promoting inclusion equality and accessibility for all.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the service including shaping communication formats and utilising social media for outreach.
Adhere to safeguarding data protection and health and safety protocols.
Participate in accredited training and continuous professional development.

Skills/Experience:
Demonstrable experience in a support education health or social care role working directly with children young people or families.
Strong working knowledge of SEND legislation and the statutory responsibilities of local authorities and partner agencies.
Skilled in providing person-centred empathetic support while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive and complex issues tactfully and confidently.
Ability to manage multiple priorities work under pressure and handle a demanding caseload with accuracy and independence.
Competent in using technology and digital platforms including website management databases Microsoft Office and communication tools.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders including families educational professionals and external agencies.
Experience in mediation problem-solving and supporting families through formal processes such as SEND Tribunals.
Ability to deliver presentations and training sessions confidently to varied audiences.

Additional Information:
This post is subject to a DBS check and the successful completion of a 26-week probationary period.

Demonstrable experience in a support, education, health or social care role, working directly with children, young people, or families. Skilled in providing person-centred, empathetic support while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
