About the Role
The Vice President Bioinformatics and Software Engineering will lead the development and implementation of scalable software systems and bioinformatics pipelines supporting whole genome sequencing (WGS) and clinical diagnostics. This executive-level role combines deep expertise in genomics cloud engineering and regulatory compliance to drive innovation in computational biology and precision medicine. The ideal candidate will build and manage a multidisciplinary team and lead the strategy for bioinformatics infrastructure in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for bioinformatics and software engineering in support of regulated diagnostic products
- Lead the design development and validation of NGS pipelines including WGS and RNA-seq in compliance with CLIA/CAP and FDA requirements
- Oversee software development cloud infrastructure internal tooling APIs and production systems to support clinical diagnostics and lab operations
- Establish engineering best practices in code management testing deployment data traceability and auditability
- Recruit manage and mentor a high-performing team of bioinformaticians and software engineers
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D Clinical Regulatory and Product teams to integrate bioinformatics into diagnostic product development
- Shape data strategy including long-term infrastructure real-world evidence generation and AI/ML enablement
- Ensure regulatory and security compliance across all systems and workflows
- Leverage open-source technologies and modern cloud-based platforms (AWS preferred) to build scalable reliable software solutions
Qualifications:
- PhD or MS in Bioinformatics Computational Biology Computer Science or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in bioinformatics and software engineering for next-generation sequencing (NGS) particularly whole genome sequencing
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling cloud-based platforms for regulated diagnostics
- Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional technical teams in a clinical or healthcare setting
- Strong understanding of compliance standards including CLIA CAP and FDA submissions
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure preferably AWS
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage both technical and executive stakeholders
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with RNA-seq multi-omics analysis and integrative bioinformatics workflows
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) clinical reporting software and lab automation workflows
- Background in FDA submission processes and development of QMS-aligned software systems
- Experience with AI/ML applications in genomic diagnostics
- Knowledge of data governance audit trails and infrastructure to support real-world evidence generation
