The Diesel Mechanic role in Ayer MA involves skilled maintenance and repair of all Public Works Department vehicles and equipment along with the upkeep of the Town garage. Skills
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles and using mechanics tools
- Experience with both gasoline and diesel engines
- Ability to manage parts inventory and prepare repair records
- Strong understanding of safety practices in vehicle servicing
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines including engine overhauls and brake work
- Document a preventive maintenance program maintaining detailed records
- Repair power equipment and tools such as compressors and mowers
- Order and manage parts inventory and assist in developing vehicle specifications
- Operate vehicles for snow removal and emergency highway operations
- Maintain a daily log of activities and update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System
Qualifications
- High school diploma with additional technical or vocational training in mechanics
- At least five years of experience in gas and diesel repair work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- CDL B license with airbrake endorsement (preferred)
- Hoisting license (preferred)
- US Citizen or Green Card holder
