Job Description:
Position: Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Senior System Administrator & Team Lead. The position reports to the Associate Vice President and CIO. Works closely with other members of the senior IT staff and their respective teams to carry out department initiatives. This position oversees the system and application administrator team managing IT services both on premises and in the cloud along with on-premises infrastructure. Responsibilities include technical oversight individual system duties project management and supervision of professional staff. Additionally the role involves researching developing and deploying new services as well as establishing protocols for server application and service management and security. Also provides strategic and tactical advice and recommendations to the AVP/CIO. This is primarily an on campus in-person position but we accommodate flexible work scheduling and workplace when appropriate.
Responsibilities:The Senior System Administrator & Team Lead is responsible for managing or co-managing a portfolio of servers applications and services both individually and as a team leader. This includes systems that are a combination of on-premises and cloud-based solutions. Examples include Microsoft 365 (Azure directory services email OneDrive etc.) server virtualization environment (VMWare) local enterprise storage Identity Management MS-SQL server Windows server some Linux data centers SharePoint SCCM/Intune and enterprise backup. Position also manages projects in area of responsibility. Current projects include cloud migration of storage and applications as well as a virtual desktop infrastructure. Position supervises two professional staff and collaborates with other areas to solve problems and deploy new services. Some off-hours and on call .
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in information technology information systems computer science engineering or related field.
Ten years of general IT experience with at least five years as a system administrator in a mid to large enterprise environment (500 end users 30 supported services) in progressively responsible positions.
Experience supervising or directing a team of professional technical staff.
Specific knowledge and/or experience with most of the applications in Westerns IT environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree(s) in information technology information systems computer science engineering or related fields.
Current relevant certifications
Experience working in higher education.
Compensation: $8600 - $91000 annually with benefits. This position is FLSA exempt. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan dental insurance retirement plan life insurance and other insurance options. After one year of employment Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
