Job Description
The BAS Engineer will serve as a Field Engineer within the BAS department and report to the BAS Project Supervisor. These duties will include network engineering project management duties for various long- and short-term initiatives such as retro-commissioning and re-commissioning data analyst data trending ensure data integrity BAS programing project review for in-house HVAC controls projects renovation projects and capital projects. The incumbent will also assist in the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the BAS to ensure sustainable operations. The BAS Engineer must be detail oriented and dedicated to continuous improvement. The incumbent is expected to fulfill identified responsibilities independently while maintaining effective communication with BAS department leadership.
Responsibilities:
Serves as a field engineer reporting to the BAS Project Supervisor.
Liaison with other departments to develop implement and execute collaborative efficiency projects on campus to meet CAC goals while maintaining operational needs of the university. Retro-commissioning tasks to include development of trends modifying and writing BAS programs managing and maintaining HVAC schedules interpretation of schematics plans and control sequences modification and creation of system graphics engaging service vendors providing cost estimates and confirming proper operation of systems after execution.
Performs BAS programming tasks to include but not limited to modifications of existing programs troubleshooting and creating programs for new work.
Maintain and modify existing scheduling and create new schedules to meet both operational and energy reduction goals.
This position will evaluate the current BAS private network with an objective to optimize and increase reliability while planning future use of the Facilities Private Network.
Assists with renovation capital and maintenance project reviews provides verification of existing conditions prior to project design completion and participates in start-up and commissioning activities upon completion of projects. Participates in job site final walk-through completes all job closeout documentation and provides training to both in-house staff as well as end users.
Monitors operates maintains modifies troubleshoots and replaces pneumatic electric electronic and direct digital controls systems for campus HVAC building controls and building control system networks to ensure occupant comfort space pressurization improve system efficiency and reduce facility operating costs.
Oversee the modification and creation of system graphics for all projects ensuring uniformity and implementation of university standards. Verify alarm table for accuracy and make necessary changes to ensure it is viable for alarm tracking and monitoring.
Performs annual review of campus BAS standards and communicates changes to CPIF Design and Construction Standards Official.
Serve as a senior technical resource to in-house staff facilities staff and end users.
Organizes and maintains job documentation.
Works independently and follows through on assignments with minimal direction.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors or Associates degree in electronics or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Leadership experience in building automation HVAC or related field.
Demonstrated experience with installation programming start-up commissioning integration modifying troubleshooting and repair of one or more direct digital control systems such as Siemens Apogee Insight or Siemens Desigo CC.
Demonstrated experience configuring and integrating various manufacturer graphical user interfaces networks network level controllers and field level controllers using BACnet Modbus and proprietary protocols.
Ability to Create and/or verify all HVAC systems point databases and all programming for all the systems for new building or retrofit systems.
Experience verifying the accuracy and calibration of all system components.
Experience installing and calibrating new or replacement devices.
Experience programming BAS system to achieve maximum energy savings.
Experience programming updating and changing schedules.
Experience developing writing control sequences of operations.
Working knowledge and experience with mechanical/electrical engineering fundamentals air and water system designs chilled water plant steam and heating hot water system operation airflow hoods and variable frequency motor drives needed for the day-to-day operation of efficient building BAS operations. Strong writing and communication skills interpersonal skills diplomacy and the ability to effectively interact and build trusted relationships with diverse internal and external constituencies.
Ability to interact with or oversee contractors and commissioning agents to verify systems are installed and operating properly.
Ability to verify readings and measurements on building automation systems.
Ability to understand complex interrelationships between multiple mechanical and electrical systems.
Ability to work from drawings schematics blueprints and job layouts. Works with a variety of hand tools including various TAB instrumentation.
Demonstrated high proficiency with current office software applications including word processing spreadsheets database management systems electronic mail and presentation applications.
This position is designated as Emergency Personnel. Must be available twenty-four hours per day seven days a week to provide support during planned or emergency situations or events to include being physically on site if deemed necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Considerable BAS experience in a large institutional setting with various complex HVAC systems to include general purpose classroom office research laboratory BSL and vivarium spaces utilizing Siemens Insight Desigo CC and/or Automated Logic WebCRTL..
Demonstrated experience in the repair maintenance control and operation of complex HVAC systems at a large institution or commercial facility.
Demonstrated experience working with pneumatic and DDC building management control systems.
Experience with Siemens Apogee Siemens Desigo CC Automated Logic WebCTRL and Trane Tracer Ensemble.
