Job Description
Position Summary

Program Highlights:
- Nine-week intensive inpatient program addressing traumatic stress injuries including PTSD with or without concurrent substance use disorders.
- Gender-specific environment fostering safety and connection among co-patients.
- Specialized treatment led by an experienced clinical team of all genders including assessment stabilization skills development trauma processing using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and discharge planning. We are integrating other forms of trauma processing.
- Weekly 1:1 physician sessions and regular 1:1 sessions with a therapist (approximately twice/week)
- Group programming featuring dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) substance use recovery processing and relapse prevention as required.
- Holistic care approach addressing physical mental emotional and spiritual dimensions of healing.

What youll be doing:
- Clinically responsible for assigned patients including admission assessment diagnosis treatment planning monitoring referral daily care and discharge.
- Clinical care includes diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders medication management referral to the Interventional Psychiatry Service (ECT rTMS Ketamine infusion) when appropriate
- Provide ongoing supervision and management of care including weekly individual assessments with the patient to ensure ongoing standards of patient care are met
- Collaborate with other physicians nurses and allied health professionals in providing optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team
- Complete documentation including admission history mental status diagnostic impression treatment plan weekly progress notes and finally a comprehensive discharge summary of the highest quality to ensure the medical record is meaningful and useful and a treatment plan can be established by the team
- Utilize electronic medical platforms such as Caseworks and BDM (training provided)
- Provide clinical guidance to the program and to the admitting department for appropriate and timely referrals and admissions
- Ensure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintained
- Support colleagues with patient coverage during physician absences (with NP support)
- Complete and submit OHIP billings in a timely manner
- Ability to provide ECT treatment to patients at the Homewood Health Centre approximately once per month is an asset
- Liaison with third party referrers as needed for continuity of care (VAC WSIB)
- Engage with learners including residents and medical students so they can recognize and make treatment suggestions for patients with trauma as primary problem.
What we are looking for:
- A specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
- Experience with diagnosis and management of complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders is preferred
- Preference will be given to those with experience working with patients with complex trauma and / or women.
- Interest to work with complex and comorbid disorders as well as ongoing learning and teaching to continually enhance patient care
- Adept at creating an environment that supports team spirit and collaboration across the organization
- Inspire others to be accountable through action decisions and/or communication
- Strong ability to create exceptional relationships with clients patients customers and colleagues
- Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking analysis and complex problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly developed organizational and time-management skills
- Demonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital
- Working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the principles of trauma-informed care are welcomed assets
