The Cardiac and Vascular Group brings all our cardiac and vascular businesses together into one cross-functional collaborative operating unit to employ the full breadth of our talent technologies products services and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe.

Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure offers devices and therapies to treat abnormal heart rhythms as well as cardiac diagnostic and monitoring solutions.

We are looking for a User Experience Designer that is passionate about user-centered design and able to turn complex technical requirements into compelling design solutions for healthcare professionals cardiac patients and their caregivers that support the Medtronic Mission to alleviate pain restore health and extend life.

Youll work in our multi-disciplinary User Experience and Human Factors team to understand product requirements identify user needs through research communicate a persuasive vision create with cross-functional team members and deliver a world class design solution.

The ideal candidate will have a proven record of delivering solutions which address complex user business and technical requirements along with experience collaborating effectively with technical and business leaders across a matrixed organization.

This position is in Mounds View MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) operating unit. At Medtronic we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We are working on-site 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Day in the Life:

In general the following responsibilities apply to the UX Designer I role. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Work with peers within a design team for a digital platform across the entire product lifecycle.
  • Participate and facilitate project definition activities such as workshops and requirements sessions.
  • Effectively communicate design vision research findings design concepts detailed design specifications both verbally and visually.
  • Interact directly with users through human-centered design techniques including observational research interviews and concept testing to uncover needs learn about user behavior and explore design concepts.
  • Test working hypotheses with users through usability testing of prototypes documenting findings and making design recommendations.
  • Work with developers to maintain design intent and bring concepts to life. Working knowledge of XML / XAML / CSS / JavaScript / TypeScript / HTML / Angular 2 is a plus.
  • Create design specs (user flows prototypes user interface design specifications) to communicate concepts and designs to internal partners.

Specialized Knowledge Required:

  • Digital design experience and familiarity with common mobile and web patterns Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Google Material Design.

Qualifications

MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in a design-related field (e.g. User Experience Interaction Graphic Visual Communications Product Industrial) Human Computer Interaction Computer Science or a technical discipline.

Nice to Have:

  • Demonstrated experience designing consumer-level mobile and web applications.
  • A strong portfolio with relevant examples of finished work wireframes prototypes specification documents and process flows. The portfolio must contain recent work examples from your professional experience.
  • Experience using product design tools such as Sketch and prototyping tools such as Axure and InVision (or equivalent).
  • Experience in user research methodologies and ability to conduct research or partner with vendor.
  • Working knowledge of XML / XAML / CSS / JavaScript.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$76000.00 - $114000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience certification/education market conditions and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
