The Staff Systems Engineer (formerly titled Senior Systems Engineer) is responsible for leading a team through all parts of the engineering lifecycle while aligning to overall business objectives project timelines and customer this role you will leverage Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) experience to assist GEs Common Core Systems (CCS) team develop and manage technical objectives for multiple aircraft platforms.

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on the process of designing integrating verifying and managing complex systems over their life cycles . At its core systems engineering focuses on working with customers to elicit and document system requirements and certification approach interface with third-party systems using the IMA resources decompose and validate requirements for the building blocks that make up the system drives early and frequent integration of blocks together and ensures adequate verification of the various levels to complete the certification process for the system.

In this position you will develop system architectures requirements interfaces integration testing and verification of complex hardware/software for aviation-based systems while mentoring others. This role collaborates with key subject matter experts and engineering project managers on project planning execution bid estimations and project performance. This position has the ability to influence and lead departmental operations personnel development (mentoring) and hiring. The role is expected to identify technical and schedule risks across all disciplines involved in the project. A self-starter will excel here. Sound judgment and leadership skills are required.

Location Preference: Ideally candidate is local to the greater Grand Rapids MI area or secondly Clearwater FL.

Hybrid 3 days/week on-site (Tuesday Wednesday & Thursday). Optional remote Monday and Friday.

Job Description

This position will be responsible for leading guiding and contributing to all technical aspects of the related project(s) across GEs Common Core Systems (CCS) based on IMA technologies. This role provides technical leadership and assistance to project teams to insure they deliver on cost quality schedule and technical milestones.

This position has the following essential responsibilities:

Ability to direct and influence the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA products/technologies.
May contribute to the development and verification plans in accordance with GE Aviation processes.

Develop architecture and trade studies as needed to comply with customer requirements.

Crosstrain and mentor other Systems Engineers in the systems engineering discipline.
Drive and support engineering reuse within the IMA product line.
Solves engineering problems directly with the customer.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to the teams running projects within the product line. This includes supporting the engineering leads and project managers with project planning conducting reviews metrics development/tracking forecasting development processes and risk and opportunity management.
Supports the engineering leads and project managers with the timely delivery of systems requirements integrated validation/verification activities and issue resolution.
Support the initiation of new projects to insure they are well planned in accordance with the product roadmap the overall product line strategy and engineering process requirements.
Lead/manage interdisciplinary collaboration with software hardware test safety maintainability reliability and certification teams.
Escalate issues that need additional engineering or business leadership assistance in a timely manner.
Uses best judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks/problems in areas of operational/product management manufacturing technology or engineering as needed.
Takes new perspective on existing solutions a fresh set of eyes
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.
Projects confidence and integrity to GE customers partners internal engineering teams and certification authorities

Qualifications / Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics Mathematics Computer Science or relatable field of study. Master of Science in similar field preferred.
12 years of experience in design & development and/or technical project leadership within an engineering product development environment.
US Citizen:This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Ability to travel 10%.

Desired Characteristics:

Knowledge of the Boeing 777x and 787 airplane and related systems.
Prior experience managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A Environment.
DO-297 ARP 4754A DO-178 DO-254 and/or DO-330 process assurance experience.
Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition requirements allocation requirements validation requirements verification integration embedded software electronic systems FAA/EASA/NAA certification and system safety.
Able to communicate directly with senior leadership inside and outside the company.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams in development integration validation and verification of systems.
Broad experience that allows the candidate to understand and translate between different engineering disciplines.
Strong systems engineering thought process on design requirements and verification.
Strong knowledge of Avionics maintainability and testability.
Ability and desire to mentor other engineers in key technical areas.
