New Mexico Legal Aid Intake Screeners assigned to Intake Referral and Advice Unit
New Mexico Legal Aid the states largest provider of civil legal services for low-income clients is seeking an intake screeners to be assigned to NMLAs intake referral and advice unit. Intake Screeners assigned to this unit conduct intakes make referrals provide information to callers and assist attorneys assigned to the unit. Services may be provided to occasional walk-in applicants as well.
The majority of NMLAs client applicants will be seeking help with family law cases (including domestic violence) landlord/tenant disputes foreclosures problems with public benefits programs employment or wage theft problems low-income taxpayer disputes and consumer law problems. But there also may be calls involving tribal court issues veterans issues migrant farm worker issues and various other civil law problems.
Duties of an intake screener in the intake unit include screening potential clients for eligibility and documenting details about the case in NMLAs on-line case management system. Intake screeners also will refer applicants to other agencies or sources of help if they do not qualify for assistance from NMLA.
Work on the intake team is often fast-paced and requires quick and confident decision-making about the best response that can be given to a client. We are looking for innovative highly motivated candidates who are passionate about justice and strongly committed to helping NMLA better serve our client community including effective use of web-based systems and other technologies to deliver legal assistance.
All candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills the ability to manage multiple tasks manage a significant caseload and build collaborative relationships within the staff and the community. Proficiency in Spanish or tribal languages spoken in New Mexico is a plus.
This position is hybrid and can based in NMLA offices throughout New Mexico (see the About Us tab on our website for office locations).
