JOB OVERVIEW
The Montana Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Wellness Manager to develop implement and administer comprehensive wellness initiatives specifically designed to support the physical mental and emotional well-being of correctional staff across the state.
- Designs and implements a holistic wellness program tailored to correctional staff needs;
- Creates comprehensive wellness strategies addressing the many dimensions of wellness to include emotional physical financial and social wellness;
- Develops implements and coordinates wellness activities that help correctional employees cope with exposure to traumatic incidents build resilience and develop stress-management techniques;
- Serves as the coordinator for the Departments Peer Support Program:
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to the program;
- Participates in the selection of peer mentors;
- Ensures that peer supporters are appropriately trained;
- Works closely with the Department of Administrations Office of Workforce Wellness and Healthcare and Benefits Division to maximize employee knowledge of and access to programs offered through those offices:
- Advocates with those offices for services that meet the unique needs of the Corrections workforce;
- Coordinates wellness events challenges presentations or other educational efforts to engage staff and create a sense of community;
- Develops communication materials and channels;
- Develops relationships with internal and external partners in support of the wellness program.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Coordinates with facility leadership to integrate wellness programs;
- Develops and manages wellness program budgets:
- Coordinates and assists in writing new and renewal grant proposals on behalf of wellness programs in collaboration with the Facility Services Bureau;
- Creates tracking and assessment metrics;
- Produces comprehensive program evaluation reports.
The Wellness Manager reports to the HR Bureau Chief.
The hourly rate of this position includes the statutory increase effective July 1 2025 in accordance with HB13.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong program development and management capabilities;
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
- Data analysis and program evaluation proficiency;
- Understanding of correctional best practices and industry trends;
- Expertise in stress management and resilience training;
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging institutional environment;
- Familiarity with Montana state government operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred bachelors degree in public health business administration criminal justice or a related field;
- Preferred five years of experience in corrections public safety or related government operations;
