Job Description

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors Degree or higher in a related field (Design & Applied Arts Fine Arts Visual Arts Visual Communication Design Website Design Multimodal Communications) from an accredited College or University.
  2. Experience with video production/television production.
  3. Minimum four (4) years full-time experience directly related to design and visual communications.
  4. Design and Visual Communications certification from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  5. Experience in Television production and video editing.

Reports to: Principal/Deputy-Director and Vocational Deans

Summary of Job Description: The Design and Visual Communications Instructor is responsible for the instruction training and career preparation necessary for students to become employed or continue education in a career related to digital design and visual communications. Students will become versed in principles of design such as color theory composition and illustration and gain the ability to take an idea from concept through the design process to preflight and understand the principles of prepress and outsourcing. They will learn the basics of page layout and design typography digital photography and manipulation storyboarding web design as well as communication with a client.

Responsibilities:

  1. Plan organize and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned area of responsibility.
  2. Act as Production Coordinator (handling of live jobs)
  3. Teach technical skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field.
  4. Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstration instruction hands-on practice review and final activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  5. Continuously improves the instruction curriculum and equipment so that this CTVE area is current with all trends in the field and is fully and properly preparing students for available and emerging jobs.
  6. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  7. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  8. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  9. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  10. Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
  11. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
  12. Implements the districts mission philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives.
  13. Assesses and documents the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  14. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  15. Attends staff and department meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  16. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy regulation.
  17. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  18. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students colleagues and parents concerning both the broad academic/vocational and behavioral progress of assigned students.
  19. Maintains documentation of competencies for student achievement.
  20. Maintains materials/equipment.
  21. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  22. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others.
  23. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the specific assignment and student grade and subject area appropriateness.
  24. Develops positive relationships with community partners in the area and actively solicit their help including service on the Program Advisory Board.
  25. Other duties deemed necessary by the Superintendent/Director or designee.

Evaluation: Evaluated in accordance with the DESE Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice and the current Northeast Teachers Association Contract.

Terms of Employment:

  1. 184 day work year
  2. Salary and benefits in accordance with current NTA Contract
