Job Description

2-3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for the case management of children and young people involved with the Youth Justice Service delivering effective statutory interventions to prevent offending and reoffending.
The postholder will work closely with families professionals and partner agencies to ensure positive outcomes for young people while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and national youth justice standards.
The position requires a strong focus on safeguarding risk assessment and multi-agency collaboration.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Manage a caseload of young people subject to statutory court orders and out-of-court disposals.
Undertake structured assessments using recognised tools (e.g. AssetPlus) to identify needs risks and protective factors.
Develop and implement tailored intervention plans in collaboration with young people families and relevant professionals.
Deliver direct one-to-one and group-based interventions addressing offending behaviour victim awareness substance misuse and personal development.
Liaise with a range of statutory and voluntary agencies including Children s Social Care education police and health services.
Prepare and present high-quality reports for court youth offending panels and multi-agency meetings.
Support children and young people in custody and during resettlement including those on remand or license.
Represent the service in Youth Magistrates and Crown Courts; provide regular court duty cover.
Monitor and record case progress in line with local and national performance indicators.
Chair and attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to service planning and evaluation.
Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with data protection and confidentiality standards.

Skills/Experience:
Professional qualification in social work probation youth justice youth work or a related field.
Substantial experience of working with children and young people in the youth justice or social care sector.
Strong understanding of legislation relating to youth justice including the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and subsequent criminal justice legislation.
Demonstrated ability to assess risk and safeguard young people and the public.
Experience working with vulnerable and marginalised young people including those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Proven ability to produce clear analytical and purposeful reports for court or statutory processes.
Confident working under pressure managing competing deadlines and priorities.
Experience of collaborative multi-agency working in both statutory and voluntary sectors.
Knowledge of issues such as disproportionality in the criminal justice system and a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient in the use of IT systems for case recording and data management.
Understanding of group work theory and experience delivering structured group or one-to-one interventions.

This post requires an Enhanced DBS check with both Child and Adult Barred Lists.
Social Work qualified.
