Software Development Manager, Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems

The Selection Contribution Platform team (SCP) owns the systems that deliver a key part of that vision we build the systems that allow Amazon to carry the largest highest quality and most up-to-date selection in the world.

As a member of SCP you will play a key role in building Amazons business. You will solve technical challenges in web-scale computing distributed systems web applications data mining machine learning optimization scalability availability and algorithms to name a few. Working with business teams to translate their needs into technical requirements you will build systems that meet challenging business and technical goals with Amazon efficiency so we can deliver great pricing to our customers. You will directly interact with Amazons Development teams across the globe to design and deliver the best solutions to grow Amazon in being earths most customer-centric company!

To meet these challenges we are looking for a passionate Software Development Manager to lead a team of excellent Software Engineers. Were looking for someone who innovates loves solving hard problems and never takes no for an answer. Our engineers are some of the best software developers in the industry who work hard have fun and make history.

With a broad technology and management toolbox you are able to develop the team and guide their technical implementations. You will lead the team to deliver robust solutions that drive ongoing expansion to Amazons catalogs across our worldwide websites. Your solutions must be well designed implemented tested deployed and supported. Your success will depend on your skills in understanding the big picture of Amazons business and delivering incremental solutions contributing to the larger vision.

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
- Experience working directly within engineering teams
- Experience managing engineers
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience in engineering

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
