Working to protect the states environment and heritage.
The 1st available role is a fixed-term position until 31 March 2027 focused on delivering vegetation classification projects across western NSW. This role is ideal for a scientist with strong field and data analysis skills who enjoys working at the intersection of ecology statistics and spatial science. Youll lead survey and classification work apply robust methods and contribute to improved understanding of vegetation patterns across NSW. Your work will directly inform biodiversity planning and land management decisions.
The 2nd available role is a permanent position with a broader long-term focus. It contributes to strategic ongoing improvements of the NSW native vegetation classification framework including aligning NSW systems with national and international classification and conservation standards. This role suits an experienced ecologist with deep technical expertise and the ability to see the bigger picture. Youll lead the integration of complex data support conservation assessments and contribute to the design of tools and systems that underpin how vegetation is understood and managed across jurisdictions.
Both roles sit within a collaborative and skilled team of vegetation ecologists that works closely with other scientists government agencies research institutions and stakeholders. Youll contribute to scientific rigour innovation and the production of high-quality ecological data that supports statewide environmental planning conservation and policy.
About You
For both roles we are seeking skilled and collaborative ecologists botanists or environmental scientists with a deep understanding of vegetation classification and a passion for evidence-based science. You enjoy solving complex problems engaging with technical detail and using your knowledge to influence broader policy and conservation directions.
