About the Role

The Education & Development Specialist is responsible for the development coordination and implementation of comprehensive trauma-informed and intersectional training aligned with MRU strategic plans for students and employees (staff and faculty) at Mount Royal University. This includes appropriately sourcing development delivery monitoring and evaluation of training such as workshops seminars presentations and online training materials; based on best practices to enhance belonging and community development at MRU.

This role requires extensive experience in the development facilitation and implementation of training and events development and facilitation as well as demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles anti-oppression anti-racism intercultural competencies complex social justice-related subject matter change management and the dynamics of complex interpersonal interactions. The impact of this role on the campus community is significant as the programming will be available and in some cases mandated to all employees and students on campus. Strong interpersonal skills are required. The candidate will possess social acuity and sharp cultural and social insight diplomacy open-mindedness and tolerance for differing beliefs and values.

This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week. Given the culture of MRU the nature of the role and the requirement for in-person training for individuals this role will be required to be in-person full time working on campus.

Responsibilities:

Training Development and Implementation (70%):

  • Lead and manage training development coordination and implementation of comprehensive trauma-informed and intersectional training aligned with MRU strategic plans.
  • Coordinate (source schedule monitor evaluate) training on campus which supports departmental divisional and institutional plans.
  • Deliver informative and transformational programming on campus that supports and enhances community belonging from an intersectional lens which supports departmental divisional and institutional plans. Examples of activities/outcomes include but are not limited to:
    • Workshops and seminars for employees and students
    • Lead groups on campus to encourage and support community connectedness and belonging
    • Host a Community of Practice each semester to share best practices work being done on campus and enhance community connection
    • Train-the-trainer sessions
  • Develop online training materials for various audiences
  • Provide recommendations to supervisors regarding intersectional community building training and professional development opportunities based on the needs of the campus community.
  • Review current MRU training and content through an intersectional lens and provide guidance to other MRU learning and content developers.

Collaboration (25%):

  • Collaborate with others to develop and deliver relevant and appropriate training that is meaningfully inclusive intersectional and enhances community connection and belonging on campus.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to further the overall mission and vision of the university.

Administrative Tasks (5%):

  • Perform administrative duties that support the work of the department(s).
  • Respond to email and phone.
  • Perform basic financial tasks such as submitting expenses.
  • Attend department meetings.
  • Prepare bi-weekly and annual reports.
  • Maintain the department website and its content on the HR talent management system.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree or Equivalent Post Graduate Studies
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • High degree of intercultural competence social awareness and emotional intelligence
  • Proven capacity to facilitate training to a diverse audience with diplomacy and sensitivity
  • Strong experience in the creation and development of educational training geared towards adult learners.
  • Coordination organizational collaboration and programming skills
  • Understanding of effective student and adult learner development and learning strategies and assessment protocols
  • Facilitation/training expertise particularly training related to sensitive topics
  • Understanding of University culture procedures and policy
  • Excellent critical thinking writing analytical and math skills required
  • Excellent customer service/public relations skills
  • Ability to prioritize work make effective decisions multi-task and manage time effectively
  • Ability to deal and communicate with a range of different personalities

Preference will be given to an proficient individual with concrete skills gained through professional experience and/or lived experiences. It is paramount that the individual presents an understanding of the importance of belonging in community development and is able to approach colleagues stakeholders and members of the community with care and compassion while being mindful of the sensitive nature of special projects and regular tasks.

Salary: $70841.00 - $89646.00 per annum
