Position Summary

The Laboratory Services Coordinator at Thermo Fisher Scientific will play a crucial role in coordinating the Lab Management processes at our Oxford Research site. This position ensures that all necessary resources for research activities are available in the assigned laboratories directly supporting our scientific management collaborators. Based onsite in Abingdon

Responsibilities

  • Act as the key interface between Scientific Research Teams and Lab Services
  • Identify daily lab priorities and communicate cross-functionally with ULS/Vertex teams for flawless execution
  • Attend science meetings to understand workflow timing of needs and experimental plans
  • Manage specialty consumable stocking areas both onsite and offsite
  • Handle the physical stocking requirements for non-standard consumables
  • Manage special order entries and liaise with external vendors
  • Provide updates and resolutions on backorder tracking reports supply availability and delivery schedules
  • Facilitate lab requests for media preparation and commercially procured media
  • Coordinate resource management required for experiments including chemical/reagent management lab stock consumables and media/biologicals management
  • Serve as the point of contact for EHSS promoting safe practices and implementing new requirements
  • Ensure PPE availability and partner with Lab Services to manage lab coat vendors
  • Generate outbound shipping requests and coordinate incoming shipments for the lab
  • Support the aliquoting preparation and dispensing of chemicals reagents and samples
  • Follow well-defined procedures as outlined by Best Practices SOPs and work instructions
  • Make decisions and apply available resources to meet customer requirements independently
  • Perform on-site program replenishments and disbursements
  • Conduct specialty stockroom duties including ordering receiving put-away stock rotation cycle counts and other functions according to customer requirements
  • Analyze data with the Site Team Leader and make recommendations for process improvements
  • Collaborate with the Lab Services team to implement changes resulting from analysis
  • Ensure the inventory plan is achieved
  • Monitor and update supplier and transport lead-times for specialty stock items
  • Maintain site-specific metrics and appropriate documentation (SOPs and Work Instructions)

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in laboratory procedures and have the following skills:

  • Outstanding teamwork abilities with experience communicating at all levels including management
  • Good awareness of health safety and environmental requirements in a laboratory setting
  • Strong independent judgment to coordinate services seek out and implement improvements and new initiatives
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capability to set and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt support other functions and achieve consensus
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work under critical time pressures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and software systems

Education and Experience

  • Previous experience in pharmaceutical/biotech labs or a related scientific field
  • A relevant scientific degree is required
