Employment Opportunity: ReFix Overdose Prevention Site Acting Responsible Person in Charge (A/RPIC)
Location: Halifax NS
Salary: $26/hour 45 hours per week
Employment Term: Annual renewal
Reports To: ReFix Coordinator and Direction 180 Program Manager
General Description:
Direction 180 a program of the Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre is looking for one (1) ReFix OPS Acting Responsible Person in Charge. The A/RPIC is the first point of contact for all clients seeking services at ReFix OPS. This position supports people who use drugs to use in a safe supportive space. The RPIC is responsible for employing a trauma-informed harm reduction approach to support vulnerable clients with complex trauma medical mental health and substance use disorders. This job description will change as the workplace changes. The A/RPIC reports directly to the ReFix Coordinator and Program Manager. The hours offered are full time Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Key Responsibilities:
We are looking for an individual to perform the following duties:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the OPS
  • Ensure the site is well stocked with safer drug using equipment naloxone and any other materials and supplies required to operate the site
  • Control the flow of service users into and out of each area
  • Refer any major staff concerns or conflicts to ReFix Coordinator or Direction 180 Manager
  • Keep ReFix Coordinator apprised of any concerns or incidents within or in close proximity of the ReFix site
  • Appropriate documentation and incident form completion when necessary
  • Responsible for updating electronic demographic and site usage database and monthly reporting to ReFix Coordinator
  • Client referral to other health & social services as needed
  • Offer clients harm reduction education and safer injections techniques
  • Role model respectful behavior during client and staff interactions
  • Provide overdose response when need using naloxone
  • Monitor clients who have completed oral intranasal or injection drug use
  • Monitor client activities within the site while enforcing ReFix Code of Conduct
  • Use verbal de-escalation and consequences for aggressive behavior
  • Debrief concerning work-related issues at the end of each shift and following any critical incident with staff and/or ReFix Coordinator
  • Work collaboratively with all ReFix team members
  • Address concerns regarding breaches of the OPS policy protocol or code of conduct with the ReFix coordinator
  • Maintain a structured safe and sterile workspace
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the OPS which may include sweeping mopping wiping down tables chairs office space and garbage removal
  • Dispose of used equipment in accordance with established protocols
  • Disinfect booth tables and chairs after each use
  • Regularly monitor the sidewalk area outside of the OPS site
  • Maintain adequate copies of daily forms for staff use
  • Ensure staff are not under the influence and of clear mind to complete shift
  • Send staff home when not clear of mind and unable to complete shift
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Health and Human Services Addictions Community Outreach or Counselling Skills
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED Training
  • Experience working in a community-based social service setting
  • Experience with data collection and reporting
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Applications (PowerPoint Excel Word Outlook)
  • Awareness of community resources for people experiencing complex health and social issues
  • Detail-oriented with active time management organizational written verbal critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Personal experience with substance use disorder and/or treatment considered an asset
