Job Description- Early Childhood Behavioral Specialist
TITLE: Early Childhood Behavior Specialist: 7.5 hrs/day and 185 days
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in the health and/or mental health field required. Experience working with young children in a professional role is preferred.
REPORTS TO: Head Start/Preschool Director
JOB GOALS:
The Early Childhood Behavioral Specialist is responsible for onsite observation staff support coaching and engagement with children in the classroom to support social-emotional progress in accordance with Head Start and preschool regulations program policies and procedures and the Kentucky Early Childhood Standards.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct ongoing behavioral observations and provide timely feedback to the classroom staff and parents/guardians.
- Provide individualized coaching support in behavior management through the use of best practices and strategies associated with the pyramid model.
- Support the development implementation and monitoring of intervention plans with strategies and goals that are relevant to social-emotional development.
- Conduct TPOT observations and/or or CLASS observations in classrooms and provide timely feedback and coaching support for classroom staff.
- Guides the behavior of children in positive and effective ways (in accordance with state/federal laws CLASS the Teaching Pyramid Model TPOT Star rating requirements etc).
- Responsible for review and support of ongoing assessment data (such as but not limited to ASQ) for children referred to or receiving mental health services.
- Review and use child/family classroom and program data to support growth and development for children and families such as but not limited to coaching goals and ASQ data.
- Provide the director with required information reports and a summary of mental health concerns as well as any other reports requested by Head Start management or the director.
- Ensure all data and documentation relating to job duties is accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
- Assists with data collection/input and reporting including but not limited to: assessments intervention data progress monitoring screenings TS GOLD documentation parent contacts and other requested documentation.
- Strictly adheres to regulations program policies program procedures and the code of ethics/code of conduct.
- Ensures child-staff ratio is maintained at all times.
- Actively supervises and monitors children at all times across all school settings and responds appropriately to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.
- Works to establish and maintain a positive classroom and school climate.
- Releases children only to authorized adults.
- Maintains confidentiality in regards to staff students and families.
- All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to confidentiality policies and legal requirements.
- Works contracted hours and days. Starts and ends daily schedule at the appointed times. Maintains good attendance.
- Reports suspected/known child abuse.
- Attends and actively participates in meetings training and professional development in their entirety.
- Engages in ongoing self-assessment learning and development.
- Supports an inclusive learning environment for all children.
- Administers screenings and assessments.
- Models appropriate behaviors for students and staff and provides emotional support through nurturing interactions.
- Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.
- Assist with the annual self-assessment community assessment and annual report to the public.
- Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned. Such duties may be assigned by the teacher Director program managers or Superintendent.
