You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailUnder supervision of the Supervisor of Anatomic Pathology and direction from Pathologists and Cytotechnologist the Lab Assistant receives and processes cytology and histology specimens for the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases. Performs clerical and receiving functions associated with the timely accurate reproducible reporting of results for cytology and histology specimens.
Responsible for specimen accessioning and preparation including but not limited to fine needle aspirations WANG procedure ThinPrep and body fluid specimens for direct smears cytospin staining and/or cell block preparation. Cytology specimen preparation includes assisting the PA or Pathologist at the time of grossing monitoring decalcification of tissues processing bone marrow specimens recording cassette numbers and special processing instructions and loading the tissue processor.
Performs rapid diagnosis procedures including frozen sectioning of tissue specimens. Also performs clerical functions sanitation of preparation areas and related duties to assist the pathologists and cytotechnologists with the production of high quality slides.
Education
High school education or the equivalent required. Associate degree in a health-related field is preferred.
Experience
Previous laboratory experience with a minimum of one year in a related field preferred.
Skills
Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocol specifications and procedures. Knowledge of programming and operation of a general laboratory.

Pay is based on experience skills and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid if applicable.
Pay range: Hourly Rate $19.00-$27.77
