Research Officer Full-Time 40 Hours per week

Mon - Fri 9:00 am to 5:00 pm AEST Melbourne (7:00 am to 3:00 pm Manila)
Role Summary
The Research Officer plays a key role in extracting and synthesizing development data across multiple jurisdictions in Queensland and other Australian states. This role requires disciplined online research data validation and summarization skills to support a commercial property insights product. It is well-suited to candidates with a background in urban planning research data analysis or investigative research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track and analyze development applications (DAs) using PD Online and DA Trackers across 15 Queensland councils.
- Extract and catalogue core information such as approval types lot counts builder involvement and developer details.
- Gather relevant zoning maps aerials and site plan images for notable projects.
- Conduct builder investigations using QBCC ASIC ABN Lookup and licensing databases across QLD NSW and VIC.
- Identify entity structures directors and builder categories (e.g. detached homes duplex medium-density).
- Maintain structured records in Excel Google Sheets or internal databases.
- Prepare summaries and dashboards for internal use via Excel or Notion.
Requirements
Background in real estate research development planning or investigative journalism.
Strong online sleuthing ability adept at finding and validating obscure information. - Excel-savvy with experience in dashboarding categorization and data entry hygiene.
- Comfortable navigating government portals public databases and regulatory registries.
- Writes clean clear internal notes and updates in proper English.
- Brings an investigative mindset with a deep respect for data integrity and privacy.
- Strong online research skills comfortable navigating government portals public registries and industry databases
- Basic understanding of business entities and corporate structures (can identify directors shareholders company links)
- Proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets sorting filtering basic formulas
- Attention to detail accuracy in names licenses approvals and categorization is critical
- Familiarity with Australian geography the Australian planning framework or construction industry terms is a strong plus (but can be learned)
- Good written English for clear internal notes or summaries
- Self-motivated and proactive able to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision
- Trustworthy and discreet handling data that supports a commercial insights product
