Job Description

Baylor College of Medicine and Department Summary:

CHRISTUS Childrens a world-class 240-bed freestanding childrens hospital in San Antonio serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013 CHRISTUS Health finalized an agreement partnering with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit employ and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Childrens.

Baylor College of Medicine () is recognized as one of the nations premier academic health science centers and is known for excellence in education research healthcare and community service. BCM is currently associated with multiple educational healthcare and research affiliates.

Summary

The Division of Genetics seeks a full-time genetic counselor to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine at CHRISTUS Childrens. This position has a competitive salary and full benefits package. The successful candidate will join a division that includes clinical and biochemical geneticists and nine pediatric genetic counselors.

Job Duties

  • Provide genetic counseling primarily for pediatric patients in outpatient and inpatient settings but will also provide genetic counseling for adult patients
  • Review elicit and interpret family medical and psychosocial histories
  • Coordinate the genetic testing process with laboratory physicians and patients/families
  • Work closely with geneticists nurses dieticians social workers and other genetic counselors to coordinate patient care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics departmental conferences meetings and student and resident teaching
  • Reports to Genetic Counselor Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have graduated from an ABGC accredited genetic counseling training program and be board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Genetic Counselors. Candidates should also possess excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) strong organizational skills critical thinking skills and eagerness to work in a team setting. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
