Job Description

Position:MultipleLanguage Learner Teacher

Location:Multiple Vacancies; location to be determined

Reports To: Principal/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning

Certification: NS or Y Endorsement Required

Salary: Bargaining Unit Agreement

Start Date: 2025-2026 School Year

Position Summary

Teachers are responsible for creating a positive learning climate with a focus on student growth and achievement. They employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet the different learning styles and interests of students.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Use language teaching strategies to increase English proficiency for students who speak a language other than English at home.
  • Advocate for the needs of the MLL students.
  • Evaluate the language needs of students whose families speak a language other than English at home and recommend appropriate language support.
  • Administer a language screener to students for whom a language barrier is impeding their academic success.
  • Maintain accurate cumulative files
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including MLL staff meetings.
  • Communicate language needs and the progress of MLL students with classroom teachers administrators and families.
  • Create a schedule that best meets the needs of the language students.
  • Connect MLL families with school events.
  • Create individual language goals for students who benefit from language support.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments for learning
  • Monitor students performance as they engage in learning activities
  • Provide re-teaching and/or interventions when appropriate
  • Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all students and consistently enforced
  • Redirect students naturally and immediately without disrupting others
  • Maximize time on purposeful instructional tasks
  • Establish a positive learning environment
  • Participate in ongoing professional growth
  • Participate in school/professional and/or community organizations or events
  • Follow District and building policies and procedures
  • Support of District goals
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues parents and students
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences in accordance with District policy
  • Report student progress to parents and students
  • Duties as assigned by the supervisor

Employment Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • This position requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited teacher education program.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience as a K-12 teacher is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • State of Michigan Teacher Certification
  • NS or Y Endorsement Required

OTHER KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Required:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  2. Knowledgeable in teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
  3. Training in the assessment and interpretation of information.
  4. Knowledge of the implementation of the IEP process.
  5. Demonstrated skills using computers and technology throughout the learning process.
  6. Conflict management and resolution skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand walk reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of stored files. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus especially due to concentration when reading and working on a computer screen.
