Job Description

JOB GOAL:The Director of Facilities shall have the administrative responsibility to maintain the physical plant and the grounds of all Bristol Warren Regional School District properties in a condition of operating excellence and compliance so that full educational and administrative use of the facilities may be made at all :
  • Bachelors degree or beyond preferred or commensurate experience.
  • Post-secondary education in areas of leadership engineering and project management are desirable.
  • Experience in building trades or building construction is desirable.
  • Experience as supervisor of construction in the building trades or similar project management is QUALIFICATIONS:Must have commanding knowledge of and ability in the following areas:
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Writing specifications for bidding by contractors for large or special skill jobs
  • Reading and drawing blueprints and construction plans
  • Developing work schedules and long-range maintenance schedules
  • Developing budgets for the operation of maintenance and custodial departments
  • Supervision of personnelPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directs and supervises all activities of maintenance and custodial personnel.
  • Is available 24 hours for emergency calls and coordinates with the Assistant Director.
  • Provides weekly maintenance reports and project updates for the Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Responsible for ensuring that equipment used by custodial and maintenance departments is kept in operating condition and updated on a regular basis.
  • In cooperation with the Director of Finance Administration and Assistant Director creates an annual asset protection plan to be submitted annually to the RI Department of Education.
  • Prepares specifications for outside bids/quotes and evaluates bids in cooperation with the Director of Finance and and inspects work performed by outside contractors verifying that contract terms have been fulfilled before authorizing payment.
  • Arranges all required inspections of buildings and equipment.
  • Responsible for hiring replacements or additional personnel as needed including substitute custodians and maintenance staff subject to approval of the Director of Finance and Administration and the Superintendent.
  • Determines answers to and acknowledges first level grievances.
  • Keeps abreast of significant developments in maintenance and custodial procedures materials and supplies security energy hazardous materials etc.
  • Manages and maintains all inventories of supplies and equipment and budgets appropriately for supply needs.
  • Evaluates annually maintenance personnel and submits these to the Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Along with Assistant Director develops and constructs the annual budget from maintenance and custodial departments with input from Principals.
  • Works closely with the owners project management team and school architect on all new construction or planning construction.
  • Serves as energy conservation officer for the School District and compiles reports to the Governors Energy Office.
  • Serves as asbestos and lead coordinator for the School District conducts inspections of all buildings and arranges to have asbestos and lead abatement plans submitted for asbestos and lead removal.
  • Serves as the hazardous materials instructor for the maintenance and custodial staff ensuring that all staff members are familiar with MSDS sheets.
  • Reviews use of facilities forms and rentals including appropriate staffing.
  • Coordinates vacation schedule for department personnel to assure adequate coverage at all times (i.e. no more than one custodian or two at Kickemuit or Mt. Hope should be out on any day). Vacation requests must be submitted according to contract deadlines and times will be allotted by seniority when necessary.
  • Meets with local officials on cooperative use of buildings grounds and resources.
  • Performs related work as required and all other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration or the Superintendent.
