The position involves supporting orthopedic surgeons on arthroplasty research with potential to explore other orthopedic specialties. Responsibilities include tasks of full cycle of clinical research from developing research to producing manuscripts and presentations and participating in clinical activities. Qualified candidates are motivated medical students with research experience strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.Job Description:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop research ideas review literature and design studies under the supervision of orthopaedic surgeons and NEBH researchers.
2. Work with hospital researchers and IRB staff to apply for IRB approval.
3. Collect clean and analyze data (databases: EMR MarketScan Patient IQ etc.).
4. Write and create manuscripts posters and presentations; facilitate manuscript submissions.
5. Present abstracts posters presentations; representing NEBH at local/regional/national conferences.
6. Participate in regular research meetings.
7. Supervise and coordinate undergraduate-level research volunteers when needed.
8. Maintain research relationships with partnering institutions and attendings.
9. Clinical and operating room participation and shadowing as agreed by attendings.
10. Other duties assigned by the OCA chair.

Makes decisions based on specific instructions standard practices and/or established procedures. Any deviations from these require review/approval from a higher level of authority.

Addresses problems that are highly varied complex and often non-recurring requiring staff input innovative creative and diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.

Follows precedents and procedures to perform tasks. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Patient Contact:
Regular day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians clinical nurses phlebotomist medical assistants PFT tech and x-ray tech.

QUALIFICATIONS
Computer Literacy:
Experience with computer systems required including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint or Access.
Written Communications Ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing to all levels of staff management and external customers across functional areas
Oral Communications
Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff patients families and external customers
Knowledge:
Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.
Team Work:
Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group(s) by offering ideas identifying issues and respecting team members
Customer Service:
Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
