POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: ArteVism Fellow

JOB CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS: Part-Time 21 hours per week through August 30 2026

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Specific Term

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Pan Valley Institute Program Director

REGION/UNIT: US- West Region

LOCATION: Fresno CA Fellowship is open to residents in surrounding counties such as Merced Madera Fresno and Tulare.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Pan Valley Institute (PVI)ArteVism Program seeks to strengthen the agency and voice of youth of color in advancing more inclusive policies advocating for the rights of immigrants Indigenous peoples women and LGBTQ people and confronting racism and discrimination in ways that lead to building thriving communities climate and economic justice.

The ArteVism Fellow with the support of ArteVism Cultural Organizer and PVI staff will participate in the work to expand PVIs capacity to engage a broader public beyond a small cohort of fellows in the critical work of using art and culture to address pressing public problems. Alongside the Cultural Organizer the Fellow will participate and learn to curate and stage creative public programming that emerged as critical during the ArteVism fellowship experience. The ArteVism Fellow with the support of the Cultural Organizer will bring new skills and creative approaches to the ongoing work of PVI and will transition ArteVisms previously internal focus to be more community-facing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Collaborate with ArteVism Cultural Organizer and PVI staff and work to expand PVIs capacity to engage a broader public beyond a small cohort of fellows in the critical work of using art and culture to address pressing public programs. The ArteVism Fellows will:

  • Learn to develop a three-year implementation plan for the ArteVism program in collaboration with the ArteVism Cultural Organizer and PVI staff.
  • Support the ArteVism Cultural Organizer in organizing one residential gathering.
  • Assist in coordinating at least one public forum on active citizenship.
  • Participate in some activities of one multi-media exhibit.
  • Participate and support Cultural Organizer in presenting the acto My Relationship with American History.
  • Participate and learn to develop the artistic component of the second International Encuentros Salt of the Earth Cultivating Climate Food and Land Justice.
  • Support ArteVism Cultural Organizer in seeking collaboration opportunities with organizations doing similar work to the ArteVsim program.
  • Build a relationship with ArteVism alumni and other PVI alums.
  • Engage in most PVI program work such as the economic climate and food justice initiatives as well as other program activities.
  • Attend meetings as needed.
  • Support PVI staff in the programs administrative activities.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects assigned.

SUPERVISORY / MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Minimum one year of experience in of leadership experience from Central Valleys immigrant refugee and disenfranchised communities is preferred. This experience is broadly defined and includes working within communities to organize cultural events or engage in social issues.
  3. Some experience in promoting and implementing activities that connect culture creative expression and active citizenship.
  4. Some experience organizing teams to accomplish an event or series of events.
  5. Basic knowledge of the cultural economic political and social impacts that have shaped Central Valley immigrant and refugee communities.
  6. Have a commitment to community and social change work.
  7. Ability to build relationships across ethnicities.
  8. Ability to work in the evenings and/or weekends and to travel as required.
  9. Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  10. Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
  11. Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  12. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.
  13. Respect for Quaker values and testimonies. Knowledgeable and supportive of the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including non-violence and the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual.
  14. Respect for and sensitivity to cultural ethnic racial gender and religious diversity and familiarity with non-violent approaches to problem solving.
  15. Ability to organize plan ahead and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  16. Demonstrated dedication to the principles of fairness equity and inclusion in regard to issues of race class nationality religion age gender and sexual orientation and disabilities.

COMPENSATION

The AFSC offers a competitive Total Rewards package. This position is non-exempt Salary Family: Fellow Job Code: Fellow. The starting hourly rate is $29.67. Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan; term life Short Term Disability & Long-Term Disability defined benefit pension plan 403b match plus other benefits including vacation Paid Time Off sabbaticals extended leaves holidays.
