DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to deliver advanced IT Sr Support capabilities to the warehouse distribution and cross dock operations that make up Office Depots internal NA IT / Supply Chain Network. IT is responsible for delivering & supporting functional expertise within and across the process paths of Warehouse Management System MS Server/ESX VM Avamar backups Wireless and Message Queue technologies. This includes the design development and deployment of process improvements new process introductions and equipment while ensuring the highest quality and the lowest cost solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create innovative multi-disciplinary technical/ functional solutions to unprecedented problems and devise solutions for the most complex and highest risk business situations.
  • Serve as a credible advisor to business partners on the use of current and future technologies for optimal impact on current and future business strategies and resultsto include owning technology roadmaps.
  • Advise functional leaders and IT Management for making strategic investments in applications databases technologies systems programs or processes.
  • Act on own initiative and awareness of market conditions and technical innovations to provide solutions to problems before they occur.
  • Perform as companys expert in 2-3 IT disciplines platforms technology systems or processes.
  • Serve as the escalation resource for the complex problems with business and financial consequences.
  • Initial contact person to the different levels of the organization on projects and initiatives directly affecting enterprise revenue and profitability.
  • Maintains a detailed knowledge of current best practices and emerging trends within the technical architecture and application development arenas. Maintains awareness and understanding of relevant emerging technologies.
  • Participate in creating or expanding relationships with major vendors suppliers regulators or other critical external organizations.
  • Understands and is proficient with company procedures for documenting new initiatives with complex business cases and detailed ROI models to gain IT Business Unit and Executive Committee agreement and approval to proceed.
  • Conduct workflow analyses and make recommendations forimprovement in material handling process and equipment layout.
  • Manage distribution center/cross dock process improvement and/or equipment projects including: research specification design integration debugging and documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute in cross-functional improvement teams in order to identify sources of waste and implement changes.
  • Establish and maintain work standards for product costing and productivity measurement.
  • Develop cost benefit analysis by working with team leads.
  • Drive test plan development and execution ensuring testing is thorough and complete.
  • Participate in process control and analyses in area of expertise. Ensure all issues are driven to closure through root cause analysis.
  • Proactive communication involving projects areas of expertise and support of operations.
  • Documentation of standard SOPs and preventative maintenance routines.
  • Provide mentorship to team members and promote knowledge transfer

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience in a related field. Graduate degree preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • 6 - 8 years of high volume IT Systems Engineering / Applications Development with warehouse & distribution experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 - 8 years experience designing developing and deploying large scale systems on multiple platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Microsoft MCSE or equivalent work experience with Server 2008 / 2012
  • VMWare 5.0 or above certification preferred
  • Strong understanding of IT-related systems; implementations operations and support
  • Experience in using different testing tools scripting and automation. For example PERL Visual Basic
  • Excellent technical knowledge of application networking firewalls load balancing applications databases operating systems (Linux and Windows) and ensuring fault tolerance for applications
  • Experience and ability to reverse engineer systems for troubleshooting

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated self-starter capable of excelling in a fast-paced high-energy environment
  • Demonstrated fundamental engineering knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean philosophy
  • Ability to communicate ideas/solutions using well organized comprehensible written reports group presentations and one-one-one interactions
  • Proven experience solving complex problems in a multi-platform systems environment
    Demonstrated comprehensive expert knowledge and exceptional insight into the information technology industry
  • Thorough and in-depth understanding of security legislation that affects our businesses including but not limited to Sarbanes-Oxley Payment Card Industry regulations
  • Customer Data Protection regulations Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and contemporary security legislation activities that may impact future plans
  • Proven experience in formal bargaining and negotiation of high risk opportunities
  • Conceive design and create new tools products or processes in a deep specialty or as an expert integrator of systems to meet business needs
  • Proven leadership in development of performance measures test plans quality assurance methodology and product release criteria based on user requirements
  • Ability to handle on call or after hour support of Operations
  • User of Quality Center MS Office
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
