Position Title: Director of Professional Learning
Pay Grade: Administrative Scale A-6 Period of Employment: 12 months
Description Approved/ Revised: 06/2025 FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervised by and/or Reports to: Deputy Superintendent
General Responsibilities: Facilitates the planning implementation and monitoring of
professional learning opportunities for teachers administrators and district staff by
designing delivering and promoting high quality professional development.
Essential Duties:

Leads the development delivery and implementation of a comprehensive
division-wide professional development program for all employee groups that is
aligned to district goals and initiatives.
Ensures that all professional learning opportunities and resources are aligned to
professional learning pathways and criteria set by the school division.
Analyzes and uses data to identify professional development needs and to
evaluate improve and report on program effectiveness.
Collaborates with the Director of Instruction Student Achievement team
members and other department leaders to develop and carry out a
comprehensive division Professional Development Plan for all staff.
Supports each principal in developing their own professional development plans
through regular consultation.
Collaborates with principals to develop Instructional Support Teams.
Coordinates the coaching of all non-tenured certified staff members.
Develops and/or coordinates leadership development for groups including
aspiring leaders team/department leaders and administration.
Works with the Supervisor of Digital Learning and Innovation to create grow and
maintain an online library of tutorial videos.
Communicates the goals plans and progress of the division professional
learning program to all key stakeholders.
Implements professional learning opportunities through multiple delivery models
including formal structured workshops and digital platforms.
Organizes maintains and supports professional learning communities
throughout the division.

Ensures all staff has learning opportunities that are aligned to their goals and
role.
Serves as the Program Coordinator for the Teacher Education and Mentor
Program.
Stays abreast of innovative professional development techniques to provide the
division with the highest quality of professional development activities.
Oversees the training and ongoing development of division trainers to ensure
consistency in facilitation.
Selects consultants to provide training services to meet areas of need for all
groups.
Develops scopes of work with consultants and monitors implementation of
services according to those agreements.
Develops and coordinates the Professional Development budget that includes
general funds Title II funds and other grant funding that pertains to professional
development.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requisite Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of staff development as it applies to both teaching and learning and
leading professional learning communities.
Knowledge of trends in curriculum teaching methods and strategies; best
practices in school improvement leadership development adult learning theory
and professional development; planning and project management; collaboration
coordination and facilitation of work groups.
Ability to plan develop implement and assess professional development
opportunities with follow-up to evaluate the achievement of identified training
objectives.
Ability to analyze data feedback and skills to align to division goals in order to
develop effective professional development programs.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while upholding the
expectations for high quality professional development.
Knowledge of effective training design concepts with effective personal
presentation style and delivery.
Experience in planning and organizing meetings and professional development
that are aligned to goals and meet the needs of the participants.
Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with peers
teachers administrators and other school division employees that cultivates
continual growth.
Requisite Education and Experience:
Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License and
an endorsement in prek-12 Supervision and Administration.
Masters degree in Education preferred.

Experience in an administrative position preferred.
Three (3) to five years of successful teaching experience required.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and
interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and
personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel
objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of
office related equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator
copier and fax machine. Significant climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching
standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions required.
