Job Description: Bus Driver

Helix Community Schools

Reports To: Transportation Manager

Position Type: Part-Time/Full-Time

Job Summary
The Bus Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting students to and from school as well as to and from school-related events and activities. This role requires adherence to all transportation safety regulations and policies while providing a positive and supportive environment for students during their commute.

Key Responsibilities
Safe Transportation: Operate school buses in a safe and responsible manner adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
Route Management: Follow designated routes and schedules for student pick-up and drop-off ensuring timely arrival at all destinations.
Student Supervision: Monitor student behavior while on the bus ensuring a safe and respectful environment. Address any issues that arise in a calm and professional manner.
Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus ensuring that all safety equipment is functional and that the vehicle is in good working condition.
Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with the Transportation Manager reporting any issues with the bus routes or student behavior promptly.
Emergency Preparedness: Be prepared to handle emergencies and follow established protocols for student safety including conducting safety drills as required.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student ridership incidents and any other relevant transportation documentation.
Collaboration with School Staff: Work collaboratively with school staff and administrators to support transportation needs for school events and activities.
Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance driving skills and knowledge of safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Truck Driving and Defensive Driving skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • CDL Class B license
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Experience in the education industry is a plus
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children is beneficial
