Protect first responders by ensuring safe firehouses and other facilities and properties.

We are seeking a proactive and experiencedFacilities Supervisorto lead our facilities maintenance operations and ensure our facilities remain safe functional and well-maintained. This hands-on leadership role combines team supervision project planning and direct involvement in facility upkeepmaking a real impact every day.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Division Chief of Support Services the Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the oversight coordination and continuous improvement of the Districts fixed facility maintenance operations. This position ensures that both routine and emergency maintenance activities are effectively planned scheduled and executed to support safe functional and well-maintained facilities.

The Facilities Supervisor leads a team of facilities personnel assigns work based on priorities and skill sets and manages relationships with external contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective service delivery. The role includes conducting facility assessments identifying maintenance needs and developing short- and long-term plans to address them. Additionally the Facilities Supervisor plays a key role in capital project planning budget development and implementation of facility-related initiatives aligned with District goals. This position includes some hands-on responsibilities involving troubleshooting repair and maintenance of facilities systems and building equipment.

Immediate Supervisor:

The Facilities Supervisor reports to the Division Chief of Support Services.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The Facility Supervisor is the first-line supervisor for all staff assigned to the Facility Section. This position also oversees outside vendors and third parties performing maintenance and repair work on the Districts facilities and related equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Facility Supervisor and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.

  • Plan organize and oversee the Districts facility maintenance operations including routine preventive and emergency maintenance of buildings systems and equipment.
  • Supervise and support facilities personnel including assigning tasks monitoring performance providing coaching and feedback and addressing performance issues to maintain a high-performing team.
  • Coordinate and prioritize maintenance requests determining appropriate responses and whether work should be completed in-house or by external contractors.
  • Oversee and perform maintenance and repair activities across multiple disciplines including HVAC electrical plumbing carpentry and low-voltage systems ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment regularly to identify issues ensure compliance with safety standards and prevent system failures or property degradation.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships including reviewing plans monitoring work quality and ensuring compliance with District standards and state regulations.
  • Support capital improvement planning including facility assessments budgeting and coordination of construction or renovation projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff and contractors interpreting blueprints codes and specifications to ensure proper execution of work.
  • Track and document work orders estimates and material usage using facility management software and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with administrative and finance staff to manage purchasing invoicing and budget tracking for maintenance operations.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and coordinate 24-hour coverage for facility-related incidents.
  • Performs and coordinates snow removal at district facilities as necessary or required.
  • Promote a positive professional image of the district fostering strong working relationships with staff volunteers and the community.
  • Stay current on industry best practices and technologies to improve facility operations and equipment reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of District goals and operations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Certification Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Technical Training: Completion of a two-year vocational or technical training program in a relevant field.
  • Licensing: Possession of a valid state-issued drivers license and an acceptable driving record. A Colorado drivers license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in building maintenance including demonstrated proficiency in facility repair and construction methods.
  • Professional Growth: Proven track record of progressively responsible experience in facilities management ideally within an organization of similar or greater size and complexity to Arvada Fire.
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain Heartsaver CPR certification. Certification training will be provided by Arvada Fire post-hire.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Specialized knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintaining major building systems.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of compliance with and enforcement of the districts rules policies and procedures including but not limited to the rules policies and procedures contained in the districts Member Handbook SOGs and Controlling Law and consistently and appropriately enforce same.
  • Ability to safely operate district provided pickup trucks utility vehicles forklifts and mobile man-lifts.
  • Proficient in the use and care of hand tools and standard power tools used in building maintenance.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and repairing major building systems including HVAC plumbing and electrical.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage vendor contracts for repairs and services as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems including heating air conditioning plumbing and electrical.
  • Understanding of construction methods and building codes including both new construction and remodeling.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions memos and short correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and equipment schematics.
  • Ability to write clear and concise correspondence.
  • Effective verbal communication skills especially in one-on-one and small group settings with team members customers and vendors.
  • Proficiency in English including reading writing speaking and comprehension sufficient to perform all job duties.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions including living quarters and office areas in and around a wide variety of automotive mechanical and chemical equipment or supplies.

  • This position normally works a 40-hour work week Monday through Friday. Occasional evenings weekends or holidays may be required.
  • This position requires moderate physical activity frequently and the ability to lift move and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently 50 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds rarely with assistance.
  • Work will be required in all weather conditions.
  • Work will be performed at multiple district locations. Travel between district facilities will be required on a daily basis using a district provided vehicle.
  • Work may be performed under dangerous hazardous and adverse conditions including but not limited to weakened structures slippery and uneven surfaces proximity to moving mechanical equipment burning structures broken glass or other materials electrical currents high places and confined spaces.
  • Use of sensory activities such as talking seeing hearing smelling feeling (identifying objects by touch) depth perception and color vision will be required often.
  • Work will involve periods of high physical mental and/or emotional stress.
  • Work may result in exposure to environmental agents including but not limited to hazardous materials gases chemicals fumes odors mists and dusts which may require use of Personal Protection Equipment.
  • This position requires the ability to stand walk sit kneel stoop bend lift squat push pull pinch grip spray reach overhead reach away from body and perform repetitive motion.
