Johnson County Mental Health Center (JCMHC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Screen and Assessment Clinician. As a Community Mental Health center in the state of Kansas JCMHC serves as a gate keeper for the state hospital system. Completing screens and assessments to best identify the most appropriate level of care and supports for an individual is a process we hold in high esteem.

The schedule for this position will be Wednesday Saturday 7am 5pm with opportunities to complete some hours in a hybrid work model. First review of applications will be June 23rd.

Job Description

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Conducts state screenings and hospital level of care assessments to best determine least restrictive environment for client to receive recommended treatment and services.
  • Provides mental health and substance use diagnoses.
  • Assesses individual risk for suicide and other safety related concerns.
  • Conducts care coordination to best fit individuals presenting needs.
  • Communicates relevant information to individuals families and other stakeholders.
  • Responds to emergency or crisis related requests from individuals and/or agencies.
  • Reviews and updates diagnosis and level of care.


Johnson County has implemented a skill-based pay plan of up to $4200 annually for staff who have obtained licensure by the BSRB at the Clinical Level.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Masters degree in Social Work Counseling Psychology or Marriage and Family field; Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the masters level in the area of focus and a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record required.

Preferred Requirements:

Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level one year of experience in the area of focus and proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Physical Environmental and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
