Job Description
pattern master also known as a pattern maker creates templates or patterns for garments or other products translating design concepts into precise patterns for manufacturing. They work with various materials including paper and fabric and utilize hand tools sewing machines and potentially CAD software. Their role is crucial in ensuring accurate garment construction and efficient production.
Key Responsibilities of a Pattern Master:
Developing and adapting designs:
Creating new patterns or modifying existing ones based on design specifications or customer requirements.
Translating designs into patterns:
Using sketches measurements and other information to create accurate patterns for all garment parts.
Cutting and marking patterns:
Precisely cutting out pattern pieces and marking them with relevant information such as size style and sewing instructions.
Utilizing CAD software:
Potentially working with computer-aided design (CAD) software to create modify and grade patterns.
Creating technical documentation:
Developing and maintaining detailed documentation for all patterns including specifications and instructions.
Ensuring quality control:
Implementing and enforcing quality control measures throughout the pattern making process.
Collaborating with design and production teams:
Working closely with designers sample makers and production teams to ensure patterns meet requirements and facilitate efficient production.
Staying updated on industry trends:
Keeping abreast of new techniques technologies and trends in pattern making.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong understanding of garment construction: A comprehensive knowledge of how garments are made and the relationship between different pattern pieces.
Proficiency in pattern making techniques: Expertise in both manual and digital (CAD) pattern making.
Ability to read and interpret design specifications: Accurately translating design concepts into precise patterns.
Knowledge of fabrics and their properties: Understanding how different fabrics behave during pattern making and garment construction.
Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy and precision in all aspects of pattern making.
Problem-solving skills: Identifying and resolving issues related to pattern fit construction and production.
