7 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
A Tree Officer is required on a temporary basis to support the planning function by assessing tree works applications and where necessary evaluating the impact of planning proposals on existing trees
The successful candidate will work alongside a part-time Senior Tree Officer and contribute to the protection and management of trees in both public and private spaces ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and planning policy
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Assess applications for tree works subject to Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and those within Conservation Areas
Provide specialist arboricultural advice in relation to planning applications and development proposals
Conduct regular site visits to assess tree condition safety amenity value and the potential impact of development
Prepare written reports and recommendations for tree works applications and planning consultations
Assist in the enforcement of breaches related to unauthorised tree works
Liaise with applicants developers residents and internal departments to provide professional guidance on arboricultural matters
Maintain accurate records in accordance with legal and planning requirements
Support the council s wider environmental and planning objectives by contributing arboricultural expertise to relevant projects
Skills/Experience:
Experience in assessing tree works applications and the impact of development on trees
Sound knowledge of current legislation policies and best practices relating to trees and planning (e.g. TPOs Conservation Areas BS5837)
Confident in carrying out independent site inspections and making informed evidence-based decisions
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write clear concise reports
Proficient in the use of GIS and other tree-related digital systems is desirable
Ability to work collaboratively and independently managing workloads to meet statutory deadlines

Full-time role: 36 hours per week
