3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
This is a front-line advisory role delivering personalised housing advice support and homelessness prevention services to vulnerable individuals and households.
The postholder will work directly with service users applying housing legislation and policy to assess need develop action plans and provide holistic solutions that promote housing stability and independence.
The role includes casework management collaborative working with partners and agencies and decision-making within legal frameworks.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Deliver tailored housing advice and support to prevent homelessness and help clients maintain or secure accommodation.
Assess housing needs and eligibility in line with legislation (e.g. Housing Act 1996 Part VI & VII) and statutory guidance.
Develop person-centred support/action plans and review progress with service users.
Maintain accurate case records prepare legal decision letters and ensure compliance with current housing law and policy.
Liaise and collaborate with internal teams statutory services and voluntary sector partners to support customers holistically.
Advise on a wide range of issues including tenancy rights welfare benefits housing benefit rent arrears and access to support services.
Identify and assess risk to safeguard vulnerable individuals making referrals where appropriate.
Support continuous service improvement through contribution to policies and procedure development.
Skills/Experience:
Strong working knowledge of Housing Law particularly Parts VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and related welfare and benefits legislation.
Experience in a customer-facing advice advocacy or support service preferably within housing or homelessness prevention.
Ability to interpret complex legal information and communicate clearly with a diverse client base.
Casework management experience including risk assessment and support planning.
Skilled in developing positive working relationships and collaborative approaches with external partners and internal teams.
IT literate with experience maintaining accurate records using case management systems.
Ability to handle sensitive and complex cases with empathy confidentiality and a problem-solving mindset.
Excellent written and verbal communication including formal correspondence and legal documentation.
