Location: Richmond Virginia.
The Virginia Department of Elections is seeking a GIS Technician with a minimum of 2 years experience to work with a small team of GIS analysts on an ongoing project.
Roles and Responsibilities:
This position will support the organization s modernization efforts by ensuring the accuracy consistency and completeness of geospatial data specifically focusing on improving the quality of geocode address points and resolving topology conflicts and overlaps on statewide GIS layers.
The ideal candidate will use ESRI GIS tools to perform data quality assessments identify errors and implement corrective measures. The candidate will also collaborate with senior GIS analysts to review the quality of geocoding sources and methodologies to enhance an existing model used for voter placement.
Lastly the candidate will produce professional and clear geographic outputs such as maps shapefiles and written recommendations for geographic requests and inquiries from internal stakeholders.
Work Experience Skills:
- At least 2 years of experience utilizing ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online to edit and maintain geospatial datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive quality control and quality assurance checks on geocoded address points
- Experience identifying and correcting gaps overlaps and misalignments in statewide boundary layers (e.g. county and municipal boundaries etc.)
- Capability to use automated tools (e.g. ArcPy) and manual techniques to validate spatial data and correct errors.

Education
Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field. Degree related to GeospatialGeology.
