The Alberta Classical Academy is now hiring an 0.2 FTE Physical Arts Teacher for its Bridgeland campus in Calgary which is home to approximately 290 students from Kindergarten to Grade 4. This is a one day per week teaching assignment.
The Alberta Classical Academy is a public charter school authority that began operating in 2022 and now has three schools in Calgary and Edmonton. In this part-time capacity the Physical Arts (Physical Education) teacher will partner with Bridgelands Physical Arts teaching lead to teach students from Grades 1-4 starting with foundational skills in physical literacy and body awareness progressing to more complex skill development in sports and physical activities as students age. Teaching responsibilities will also include delivery the health outcomes of the PHE curriculum.
The Physical Arts teacher will report to the Principal and Associate Principal and will be responsible for meeting the expectations of the Education Act the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard and the Policies and Administrative Procedures of the Alberta Classical Academy.
Responsibilities
The Physical Arts Teacher is responsible for educating students in foundational physical literacy skills progressing to more complex skills in sports as students develop and grow. They are expected to explore and develop physical activities and curriculum that aligns with a classical perspective on physical movement. This may include but is not limited to Olympic sports ball
sports classical dance gymnastics fencing track and eld and martial arts. Students will spend a signicant amount of time both in the gymnasium and outdoors.
Physical Arts Teachers are responsible for helping to organize curate and maintain gym equipment.
Finally the Physical Arts Teacher in this role may have the opportunity to help plan (in conjunction with the Physical Arts teacher lead) o-site or on-site activities that will support and enrich students learning and appreciation of sport dance or other forms of physical movement.
