Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director assists in the overall operation of the Academic Success learning center including Peer Tutoring Supplemental Instruction Academic Coaching the Writing Center and other programs and services aimed at facilitating student academic achievement.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

  • Program Management & Supervision: Coordinates the Peer Tutoring program which includes recruiting training and supervising a staff of 20-30 tutors ensuring that the program adheres to established best practices and standards. Develops and facilitates tutor training and professional development.
    • Recruits trains and supervises a staff of 5 Peer Academic Coaches who assist students in developing improved study strategies setting goals and identifying anticipating and overcoming potential barriers to success.
  • Program Support: Supports and collaborates with the Director with training and supervising a large staff of SI Leaders Writing Consultants and Receptionists. Assists in developing training topics and facilitating training for a certified tutoring program.
  • Success Coaching: Conducts academic coaching sessions with students who may be in good academic standing or who are working to improve their academic performance. Conducts follow-up meetings and refers students to other campus resources as needed.
  • Assessment Support & Data Collection: Assist in assessment of data in order to make data-driven decisions about changes and improvements in academic support programs and services. Supports the Director in managing the Academic Success budget and payroll.
  • Department Representation: Works as a liaison with other campus groups and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and or two to four years related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree (M. A.) or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office and Google suites; familiarity with using TutorTrac TracCloud or other learning center management software. Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Canvas is preferred. Proficiency in design software like Canva and social media platforms is preferred.
  • This position requires the ability and/or skill to: work closely and professionally with others as part of a team be flexible pay attention to detail work without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative communicate professionally through both verbal and written means work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines establish departmental goals and priorities contribute to Capital Universitys mission and vision. This position also requires the ability to effectively present information to a wide range of audiences facilitate discussion groups workshops and events.
