Kemper a publicly-traded multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company seeks a talented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our (segment) Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge of ledgers consolidation and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C life health) that has exposure to SEC GAAP and statutory accounting. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kempers financial reporting
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparing monthly journal entries for the corporate general ledger
Preparing general ledger reconciliations
Preparing and analyzing management reports
Creating and performing ad hoc queries and analyses
Support the consolidation and reporting functions
Creating and performing ad hoc queries and analytics upon request
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS degree in Accounting
CPA or CPA candidate a plus
1-2 years experience in a corporate or general accounting role
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS:
Effective writing skills and strong attention to detail required
Strong analytical organizational and time management skills
Progressive thinking skills a strong work ethic and a knack for innovative solutions
Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff.
Ability to identify analyze and solve accounting issues.
